Cell selection and resource allocation (CS-RA) are processes of determining cell and radio resource which provide service to mobile station (MS). Optimizing these processes is an important step towards maximizing the utilization of current and future networks. In this paper, we investigate the problem of CS-RA in heterogeneous wireless networks. Specifically, we propose a distributed cell selection and resource allocation mechanism, in which the CS-RA processes are performed by MSs independently. We formulate the problem as a two-tier game named as inter-cell game and intra-cell game, respectively. In the first tier, i.e. the inter-cell game, MSs select the best cell according to an optimal cell selection strategy derived from the expected payoff. In the second tier, i.e., the intra-cell game, MSs choose the proper radio resource in the serving cell to achieve maximum payoff. We analyze the existence of Nash equilibria of both games, the structure of which suggests the interesting property that we can achieve automatic load balance through the two-tier games. Furthermore, we propose distributed algorithms named as CS-Algorithm and RA-Algorithm to enable the independent MSs converge to Nash equilibria. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms converge effectively to Nash equilibria and that the proposed CS-RA mechanism achieves better performance in terms of throughput and payoff compared to conventional mechanisms.

In code-division multiple-access (CDMA) mobile multimedia systems, call admission control (CAC) is essential to prevent overloading and ensure quality of Service (QoS) requirement for each traffic class. While efficiency is an important performance issue in the mobile networks with multimedia services, the concept of fairness among services should also be considered. Game theory can provide an appropriate framework for formulating such fair and efficient CAC problem. In this paper, a selection method for fair-efficient threshold parameters of the CAC scheme in CDMA mobile multimedia systems with traffic asymmetry based on the framework of game theory is proposed. The proposed scheme provides fairness and efficiency in terms of uplink and downlink signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) for the 2 classes of traffic, and also guarantees the priority of class 0 calls over class 1 calls. Class 0 calls and class 1 calls are viewed as two players of a game. For the cooperative game, the arbitration schemes for the interpersonal comparisons of utility and the bargaining problem are investigated. In the aspect of the social welfare (total utility), the numerical results indicate that the Nash solution of the bargaining problem outperforms the equilibrium point of the noncooperative game and the solution of the interpersonal comparisons of utility due to its much higher total utility.

Στην παρούσα διατριβή, κύριος στόχος αποτελεί η μελέτη των θεμάτων της Διαχείρισης Πόρων και του Ελέγχου Αποδοχής Κλήσεων σε συνδυασμό με την Αξιολόγηση Επίδοσης των σχετικών αλγορίθμων με στόχο την παροχή ποιότητας υπηρεσίας (QoS) σε ασύρματα ευρυζωνικά δίκτυα επικοινωνιών. Η έρευνα που παρουσιάζεται στην παρούσα διατριβή λαμβάνει υπόψη τις προδιαγραφές των τεχνικών προτύπων και τις εξελίξεις που δημιουργήθηκαν τα τελευταία χρόνια για τα ασύρματα δίκτυα δίνοντας έμφαση στα κυψελωτά τηλεπικοινωνιακά συστήματα που γνωρίζουν μεγάλη απήχηση. Στο 1° κεφάλαιο της διατριβής παρέχεται μια γενική παρουσίαση των τεχνολογιών ασυρμάτων επικοινωνιών με ειδικές αναφορές στα ειδικά προβλήματα διαχείρισης πόρων κάθε μιας. Στο 2° κεφάλαιο δίνεται έμφαση στη μελέτη και περιγραφή των μηχανισμών παροχής ποιότητας υπηρεσίας με ιδιαίτερο βάρος στις παραμέτρους QoS που προδιαγράφονται, με στόχο τη βέλτιστη εκμετάλλευση του πόρων του δικτύου και την υποστήριξη των διαρκώς αναπτυσσόμενων πολλαπλών κλάσεων υπηρεσιών. Έπειτα παρουσιάζονται τα επικρατέστερα μοντέλα δικτυακών υπηρεσιών σε συνδυασμό με τις κατάλληλες αρχιτεκτονικές που αναμένονται να προσφέρουν τις αναγκαίες λύσεις για την παροχή QoS. Στα πλαίσια του 3ου κεφαλαίου γίνεται εκτενής επισκόπηση και μελέτη στη διεθνή βιβλιογραφία για την επίλυση του σχετικών προβλημάτων και ειδικότερα των αλγορίθμων που έχουν ήδη προταθεί. Στη συνέχεια, προτείνονται αλγόριθμοι ελέγχου αποδοχής κλήσεων για ασύρματα ευρυζωνικά δίκτυα επικοινωνιών που βασίζονται στην ανάπτυξη των μοντέλων πιθανοτικού ελέγχου αποδοχής κλήσεων. Οι πιθανοτικοί αλγόριθμοι ελέγχου αποδοχής κλήσεων που προτείνονται έχουν ως στόχο τον προοδευτικό έλεγχο της ροής τηλεπικοινωνιακού φορτίου κάθε τύπου με σκοπό την αύξηση της απόδοσης του δικτύου και τη βέλτιστη χρήση των διατιθέμενων πόρων. Οι νέοι προτεινόμενοι αλγόριθμοι οι οποίοι λαμβάνουν υπόψη την τρέχουσα κατάσταση του δικτύου αποσκοπούν στην εξασφάλιση της παροχής QoS στις υποστηριζόμενες κλάσεις υπηρεσιών. Η μελέτη των προτεινόμενων αλγορίθμων πραγματοποιείται με χρήση Μαρκοβιανού μοντέλου και παρέχονται αναλυτικοί τύποι για τον υπολογισμό των πιθανοτήτων μη αποδοχής κλήσεων. Επιπλέον, παρουσιάζονται τα αποτελέσματα των σχετικών προσομοιώσεων για την επιβεβαίωση της ακρίβειας του προτεινόμενου μοντέλου σε συνδυασμό με την εξέταση της περίπτωσης της λογαριθμοκανονικής κατανομής για το χρόνο εξυπηρέτησης των κλήσεων. Στη συνέχεια, στο 4° κεφαλαίο, ακολουθεί η περαιτέρω αξιολόγηση της επίδοσης των προτεινόμενων σχημάτων του πιθανοτικού ελέγχου αποδοχής κλήσεων με βάση νέα κριτήρια που αφορούν τις επιδόσεις του μηχανισμού απόδοσης προτεραιότητας, την αξιολόγηση της δικαιοσύνης του πιθανοτικού σχήματος ελέγχου αποδοχής κλήσεων στην εξυπηρέτηση των κλήσεων καθώς και τα επίπεδα απόδοσης του αλγορίθμου ως προς τη διεκπεραιωτικότητα των κλήσεων. Επίσης, στο 5° κεφάλαιο επεκτείνοντας την αρχική προσέγγιση αναπτύσσονται τεχνικές βελτιστοποίησης των προτεινόμενων μοντέλων πιθανοτικού ελέγχου αποδοχής κλήσεων με χρήση θεωρίας παιγνίων και τεχνικών διαπραγμάτευσης τιμολόγησης σε συνδυασμό με την ενσωμάτωση τους στο υπάρχον μοντέλο. Μέσα από την βελτιστοποίηση, ενισχύονται ο δυναμικός χαρακτήρας του σχήματος και η λειτουργία του, παρουσιάζοντας σημαντικά βελτιωμένα αποτελέσματα επίδοσης. Τέλος, στο 6° κεφάλαιο παρουσιάζονται συνοπτικά τα συμπεράσματα της όλης ερευνητικής εργασίας και τονίζονται τα σημεία στα οποία προάγεται η επιστήμη ενώ επιπλέον γίνονται και οι υποδείξεις για μελλοντική έρευνα.
