Wet multi-plate clutches are safety-critical components of drive trains. Failure and damage must therefore be strongly avoided. In contrast to longterm damage, spontaneous damage and failures are difficult to predict. Different authors have already theorized the influence of different parameters on the carrying capacity. This paper extends the analysis of these effects by conducting experimental investigations. Furthermore, an evaluation method that allows to compare different clutch systems regarding their load carrying capacity is presented. Clutch systems with variation of oil flow, plate thickness, coating and groove pattern were tested, and their results analyzed. Statistical methods were used to consider the variance of the measurements. Lastly, recommendations are formulated for the development of clutch systems concerning the load carrying capacity. Strong trends can be seen for the influences of the thickness of the steel plate and oil flow rate, but these can only be statistically substantiated for the variation of the oil flow rate. For the variation of the coating and the grooving, only slight to no differences are discernible.

ZusammenfassungDie thermisch verursachte, plastische Verformung an statischen Druckplatten von Lamellenbremsen kann das Betriebsverhalten von Bremsen nachhaltig stören und sollte daher vermieden werden. So kann die plastische Verformung der Druckplatte beispielsweise zu einer Verkleinerung des Luftspalts führen und ungewollte Veränderung der Reibverhältnisse verursachen.Während des Bremsvorgangs dehnen sich hoch erwärmte Bereiche nah der Reibfläche aus und werden von den Zonen geringerer Temperatur an ihrer Ausdehnung gehindert. Überschreiten die daraus resultierenden Spannungen die Dehngrenze des Materials, kommt es zu plastischer Verformung. Dieser Artikel erläutert den physikalischen Verformungsprozess detailliert und darauf aufbauend, welche Maßnahmen zu einer Verringerung der Verformung ergriffen werden können. Dazu werden im Rahmen theoretischer Vorüberlegungen drei Ansätze identifiziert, die sowohl die Geometrie als auch die Werkstoffe der Druckplatten betreffen. Radiale Schlitze sollen die Behinderung der thermischen Dehnung verhindern und dadurch Spannungen reduzieren; die Werkstoffauswahl auf Basis der Thermoschockempfindlichkeit reduziert die plastische Verformung. Anhand einer kombinierten Simulation der Thermik und der Mechanik einer Druckplatte wird der Effekt dieser Ansätze an vier Varianten der Druckplatte überprüft. Experimentelle Untersuchungen an realen Prototypen der Druckplattenvarianten bestätigen die Ergebnisse der Simulation und weisen die Wirksamkeit der vorgeschlagenen Maßnahmen zur Reduzierung der plastischen Verformung nach.

As a core component for efficient variable speed transmission and energy saving, wet clutches are widely used in the transmission systems of energy-saving and new energy vehicles. However, with an increase in the service mileage of the wet clutch, the friction coefficient undergoes alterations. This leads to a deterioration of the control accuracy of the clutch transmission torque, which ultimately has a negative impact on the dynamic characteristics and driving safety of the entire vehicle. In order to understand the service behavior of the friction coefficient in a wet clutch, wet clutches with different service mileages were investigated experimentally and theoretically. The results show that as the service mileage increased, the hydrodynamic lubrication phase was extended. Analyses of the three-dimensional profile of the friction plate and the theoretical simulation of the friction revealed that the edge ridges of the friction pads were flattened. This increased the clutch engagement force when the asperities on the separator and friction plates came into contact.
