Failure analysis of connecting bolts in collapsed tower crane

Abstract: The use of tower cranes can cause critical accidents during large building construction projects. Failure of the tower crane results in critical injuries to crane operators and other workers at the construction site. Issues that often cause the fatal collapse of tower cranes include the damage and fracture of the mast (or tower) and turntable parts, and the tower crane slewing‐unit‐support fleeing. Without systematic investigations and proper prevention procedures in place, this type of crane accident, which o… Show more

“…In the process of crane operations, due to the complex man-machine-management-enviroment interface, high task di culty, and uncertain information [2], there is a potential high risk, which makes the causes of crane accidents such as overload, collision, and operation error highly complex, which can easily lead to crane accidents, resulting in serious consequences such as casualties and property losses [3]. Therefore, to prevent the occurrence of lifting injury accidents, to ensure the safety of lifting operations, and to reduce economic losses, these are important issues that need to be solved urgently in the construction of large-scale water conservancy and hydropower projects, long-span bridges, high-rise buildings, and other projects [4,5].…”
