Failure Analysis of Al1060 Sheets under Double-Sided Pressure Deformation Conditions

Abstract: The viscous pressure bulge (VPB) testes of the aluminum Al1060 sheet were carried out with stainless steel overlapped outside without lubricant. The influence of the compressive normal stress on the failure behavior of aluminum sheet was investigated by scanning electron microscope observations. The results indicate that the forming limit of overlapped aluminum sheet is increased significantly compared with the single aluminum sheet. Fractography shows that the void growth and conjunction in the thickness dire… Show more

“…Figure 6d shows this titanium-island-like shape (marked by red line) in the aluminium rich area. These types of islands may affect the mechanical performance of the welded plate [50,51]. The elemental scan of Ti-Al interface (Figure 7a) shows that at the interface, an island (as indicated by arrow) is formed with titanium as the dominant element while the surrounding area consists of titanium aluminides.…”

“…17 The forming technique using the viscous fluid as the force transmission medium can achieve the bidirectional loading during the sheet metal forming process, but the uniform stress cannot be guaranteed, because of the restriction of flowing medium. 18 Above all, testing the properties of sheets becomes an important part which cannot be neglected in the process of hydraulic forming. But the reliability test for the uniaxial tensile forming properties of sheet metals under the condition of three-dimensional stress cannot be easily realized, and there is no simple and efficient testing device.…”
