Faculty Expectations of Student Performance in Mixing Insulins

Abstract

SynopsisDiscrepancies were discovered in current nursing and pharmacology references regarding the mixture of two forms of insulin for administration. The standards used for mixing modified and non-modified insulins were surveyed among 59 nursing faculty in a large university. Results indicated that 16 (27. 6 ~ ) expected students to draw up regular insulin first; 11 (19. 0 %) to draw up modified first; 14 (24.1 ~ ) to refer to agency protocol; and 7 (12.1 %) to use two separate syringes.
