This meta-analysis study aimed to examine the effect of data literacy education, which affects data-based decision processes, on data use knowledge and skills of school administrators and teachers. Therefore, theses of data literacy education for school administrators and teachers and relevant studies in peer-reviewed journals were examined through several databases. The study was conducted using the Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) software, using a total of eight studies published between 2006-2021. The results revealed that the selected studies were heterogeneous. Therefore, a random effects model was applied in the study. The overall effect size value of data literacy education was calculated as 2.16, suggesting that a data literacy education makes a positive high contribution to data use knowledge and skills of school administrators and teachers. The subgroup analyzes conducted to determine the source of heterogeneity in results have shown that data literacy education did not differ by type and country of publications, but varied by type of participants, where studies conducted with mixed participants had high effect values. Based on these results, it can be suggested that data literacy education given to school administrators and teachers should be expanded in all countries and education levels, and a meta-analysis of studies conducted in correlation between data literacy and different variables.

Data literacy assessment instrument for preparing 21 Cs literacy: preliminary study

This study aims to develop an instrument to measure data literacy. Data literacy is one of the 21st century literacy (21Cs) that needed face the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (4IR). The interpretations about the ability of students’ data literacy are used as additional data. This study uses a modified instrument development stage, which consists of 6 stages. Sampling technique using purposive random sampling with a total sample 94 junior high school students. The results of the content validity test show that all questions are valid in content with a minimum Aiken’s V value of 0.76. The validity and reliability test empirically using Parscale shows that the questions are valid and reliable to measure students with abilities of -2.8 to 2.1 logit scale. Based on the research it is concluded that the data literacy instrument can be used to test the initial ability of data literacy.

The goal of the European Educability project was to create a specific skills program for educators and information professionals covering six key multiliteracies within the new European framework of digital competencies. The focus of the project is placed on the importance of international collaboration in the development of these programs, using one specific literacy as an example: data literacy. This paper provides the working methodology for the project, based on prior definition of the conceptual elements and, subsequently, on the design of a Delphi study in which 15 experts from the partner countries evaluated and reached a consensus on the importance of the learning objectives and training programs presented. The results for data literacy highlight the need to apply replicable methodologies when designing skills programs. The international cooperation work carried out within the framework of the Educability project contributes to standardization in the approach to these programs, as well as in research on multiliteracies.
