Factors Protecting Male and Female Adolescents in Mexico From Human Papillomavirus Infection

Abstract: An intervention targeting adolescents should encourage adolescents to develop their own cognitive processes, thereby facilitating the adoption or development of action plans for HPV protective behavior.

“…Estudios epidemiológicos has propuesto que el mecanismo más plausible mediante el cual se presenta la infección por VPH en cavidad oral es la práctica de sexo oral donde el número de parejas sexuales ha sido considerado el mayor factor de riesgo, y no se descarta que los besos pueda ser una vía de transmisión 21 , Los resultados del presente estudio sugieren que las mujeres activas sexualmente que no utiliza un método anticonceptivo de barrera como el condón presenta una mayor porcentaje de infección del VPH. En un estudio realizado en México se encontró que la utilización del condón está asociada a una menor presencia del VPH en mujeres jóvenes activas sexualmente 22 , lo que el uso del condón puede bloquear la infección o reinfección entre los dos miembros de la pareja acortando, por tanto, la duración de la infección. Igualmente, en un estudio realizado en Estados Unidos, con mujeres jóvenes que habían iniciado recientemente la vida sexual activa, se encontró que aquellas mujeres cuyas parejas usaron condones en todas sus relaciones sexuales en los ocho meses anteriores a la prueba de detección de VPH, presentaron una probabilidad 70% inferior de adquirir una nueva infección por VPH que aquellas mujeres cuyas parejas habían usado el condón en menos del 5% de sus relaciones 23 .…”
