Factors promoting emotional‐behavioural resilience and adjustment in children exposed to intimate partner violence: A systematic review

“…Initially, a search of the Cochrane Database, Campbell Collaboration, University of York (DARE Database) and Prospero databases was conducted to locate previous or current relevant reviews. Three relevant reviews from the UK, which differed significantly to our own, were located on the Prospero database (Arai et al, 2016; Fogarty, Wood, & Hanson, 2016; Moore, Howarth, Feder, & Heawood, 2013). ETHOS, PROQUEST Dissertations and Thesis Global was also searched to uncover any relevant thesis or dissertations.…”

“…Another potential interpretation is that parental acceptance plays a buffering role between family conflict and child internalizing problems (Fogarty, Wood, Giallo, Kaufman, & Hansen, 2019;Graham-Bermann, Gruber, Howell, & Girz, 2009). The correlations among model coefficients showed that family conflict explained less variation of child internalizing psychopathology in families/children reporting greater parental acceptance (r family = 0.41; rchild = 0.39; both p < .001; see Supplementary Materials).…”

“…However, not all children exposed to DV experience these negative consequences. Indeed, many children demonstrate high levels of resilience following CEDV with consequences varying based on the magnitude and frequency of exposure, the child's developmental stage, gender, race/ethnicity, and personal and environmental protective factors (Anderson & Danis, 2006;Cameranesi et al, 2020;Fogarty et al, 2019). For instance, a recent study identified a set of personal and environmental protective factors among youth exposed to DV and under child maltreatment investigation (Mariscal, 2020).…”
