Introduction Relatively low modern contraceptive prevalence and high unintended childbearing pose substantial encounters for Indonesia to achieve sustainable development goals. Despite contraceptive behaviors are influenced by multiple and multilevel variables, studies on modern contraceptive use in Indonesia has concentrated on single-level and mostly individual and household variables, and less interest has been devoted to multilevel analysis that accounts for community and SDP characteristics that may affect woman’s decision to use modern FP method.Methods This study analyzed data from the 2016 PMA2020 survey of 10,210 women in 372 communities in Indonesia. The data were analyzed using a multilevel mixed-effects logistic regression to assess the role of structural quality and process quality of family planning care and other factors in modern contraceptive utilization.Result The highest loading factors for structural quality were number of contraceptive provided, SDP supports CHWs, available water and electricity, and skilled FP personnel, while the highest loading factors for process quality were privacy of clients and provision of post-abortion service. There were significant differences across communities in how study variables associated with modern FP adoption. The finding shows the evidence of significant roles of structural and process quality FP care in modern contraceptive use. Moreover, women with high autonomy in FP decision, those who had free national/district health insurance, and those living in a community with higher proportion of women visited by CHW had higher odds of modern contraceptive usage, yet, women who live in a community with higher mean ideal number of children or greater proportion of women citing personal/husband/religion opposition to FP, had lower odds of modern contraceptive use than their counterparts.Conclusions Study findings suggest improvement in structural and process quality of FP care will yield substantial growths in modern contraceptive use. Moreover, FP workers should also address prevailing cultural/traditional customs in community and should target communities where the demand for modern FP was deprived by social beliefs and norms. There was significant variation across communities in how individual, household, community, and SDP factors affect modern FP practice, hence, context should be taken into consideration in the development of FP intervention and promotion programs.

Background: Management of Family planning (FP) commodities is a significant problem that is not limited to compromising the quality of FP services but also results in economic burden especially in developing countries. Some facilities may have ample FP commodities while others have a shortage if FP logistics are managed poorly. Hence, assessing the FP commodities logistic management is relevant to inform decision-makers. Methods: This survey was a cross-section study of 763 public primary and secondary healthcare facilities in Nigeria. The study involved facility assessment and quantitative interview of key personnel in each facility, using a structured questionnaire. The study was conducted from May to July 2019. The data collected were analysed with IBM-SPSS version 25.0. Descriptive statistics were performed, Chi-Square and linear logistics regression were used to establish significant associations; p<0.05 was considered significant. Results: About half (51.4%) of primary and 33.5% of secondary healthcare facilities were not using forms for reporting FP supplies. Also, 23.8% of primary and 18.8% of secondary facilities waited for more than two months before receiving orders. The facilities have an average of 2-3 trained personnel on FP services. FP staff who were trained had their last training over a year ago (primary-31.9%); secondary-37.4%). Secondary facilities were 2.102(95% CI:1.567–2.820) times more likely to use log forms, 1.845(95% CI: 1.076–3.165) times more likely to have cold chains, and 4.785(95% CI: 3.207–7.139) more likely to have trained staff on insertion and removal of implants than primary facilities (p<0.05). Conclusion: We advocate that the government and donor agencies carry out urgent interventions such as regular supply of contraceptives, regular training of FP service providers, provide sufficient manpower, carry out regular monitoring and evaluation of FP services and create awareness on the need to use FP services among grassroots citizens.

Research objective: Long-term reversible contraceptive method (LTRC) is the most effective form of contraception but women prefer lesser effective method. In this study we explored whether women of reproductive age will accept or reject LTRC as their contraceptive innovation, and how their perceptions on the innovation's attributes influence their decision in choosing LTRC.Design, participants, interventions, and outcomes: The research design used was a qualitative descriptive study with high-risk reproductive women who were over 35 years old (16 people) spread over 4 health centers (puskesmas) as participants. Data collection was done by using focus group discussion. The results were analyzed using thematic content analysis.Result: Data analysis revealed that there were 2 subgroups of participants based on their tendency to use LTRC: positive (n 6) and negative (n 10). Most of the participants were aware of the advantages of long-term reversible contraceptive methods. They get information from health workers, the media and other people's experiences. They think that both IUD and implants have a high complexity / difficulty, especially the IUD. The characteristics of innovation in the form of relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability and ease of observation greatly influence the decision to choose a long-term reversible contraceptive method. Most of the participants refused to try using the LTRC because it was too risky to try and too complicated to use.Conclusion: Most women are still hesitant to choose LTRC as a contraceptive, especially intrauterine contraceptives. They need more information about the advantages of LTRC
