The manufacturing sector in Malaysia has been recognized as an important sector due to its significant contribution toward the nation's economic growth. This sector is the most significant contributor to total exports of the country and the second largest contributor to the gross domestic product (GDP). However, the total shares of Malaysia's manufacturing exports in the world market declined due to competitive and globalized market condition. Consequently, it is essential to investigate the factors that affect operational excellence to remain competitive and achieving excellence in the business. This study aims to examine the internal and external environmental factors that affect the operational excellence in the Malaysian SMEs manufacturing sector. The literature have demonstrated that an investigation on operational excellence lacks particularly in Malaysian SMEs sector. In addition, the impact of internal and external environmental factors on operational excellence has received little attention in the literature especially in the SMEs sector. Therefore, the conceptual model has been developed based on a comprehensive review of the previous study. This paper presents a conceptual framework that investigates the internal and external environmental factors that affect operational excellence as well as their relationship on operational excellence in the Malaysian SMEs manufacturing sector. The contribution of this paper is to identify the influence of internal and external environmental factors towards the operational excellence. Thus, this study proposed a conceptual framework for SMEs manufacturing sectors in Malaysia.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) for successful implementation of Operational Excellence (OE) by the organisations in the Sudanese aviation industry, as well as to determine the resulted impacts in the improved organisational performance and competitive advantage, and to quantify the benefits.Design/methodology/approach: The Critical Success Factors (CSFs) of OE were provided and dissected to reveal its integrated components and their importance levels. These factors include leadership, people management, continuous improvement, operational strategy, and asset optimisation. Also, the impacts (outcomes) further categorised in the four financial results, quality of products or services, efficiency, and satisfaction groups were presented, while the weight of each outcome was highlighted.Findings: With the OE's conceptual framework, the critical success factors to achieve OE were identified. Hence, from the five main factors, the expert panel members suggested the leadership factor to be the most important to achieve OE in the Sudanese aviation industry. Ranking of the five critical success factors and the forty sub factors provided a better understanding of the Sudan situation, specifically concerning the effective implementation of OE philosophy.Research limitations/implications: The findings of the sub-factors reported in this study were not enough. As a result, the future studies must focus on the detailed descriptions of sub-factors that are related to each of the critical factor identified. Practical implications: Efficiency in the organisations is generated and enhanced when the organisations become efficient in reducing the waste of time, raw materials, unnecessary processing, in addition to the energy used in transportation, storing, and operating plant. Besides, the state of effectiveness is achieved when the organisation achieves its long-term goals through increased customer satisfaction and is able to prove its reason for being. OE is critical as it assures both the efficiency and effectiveness of organisationsOriginality/value: The past research activities have relatively over-emphasised in the unilateral "result-driven" perspective of OE that corresponds with the limited concern for enablers, the critical forms and focus of OE. Thus, this issue is a shortcoming that this paper attempts to address.

Food product packaging plays a pivotal role in attracting the customers. There are many quality products produced by Small and Medium Industry (SMI) entrepreneurs which had failed to penetrate the market. The situation is due to the unattractive packaging appearance and does not meet packaging standards. Moreover, the use of imprecise packaging materials and ineffective packaging methods may have shorten the lifespan of the products. Therefore, it is important for SMI entrepreneurs to embark on innovative packaging features in order to increase their sales and products' life span. Entrepreneurs' innovative capability normally can be assumed to be driven by PSiKKIT factors, which comprise of the knowledge, attitudes, awareness, financial, institutional networking and technology. The focus of this study is to analyze previous literatures pertaining to the PSiKKIT factors which had drived entrepreneurs towards innovative packaging. The finding in the present study indicates that PSiKKIT factors can motivate SMI's entrepreneurs to be more creative and innovative in food packaging. The PSiKKIT factors are parallel with the application of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) argument that used to deliberate the act of intended human behaviors. The behaviors can be planned assuming all human behaviors occurred consciously and by considering available information. Thus, in can be conclude that the PKiKKIT factors can be a necessary tools that can motivate the SMI's entrepreneurs to create their product packaging innovatively that would strategically improve their market performance. Moreover, the information gathered from the literature has improve our basal understanding on how TPB can be integrated in the marketing field.
