Abstract:Synopsis
Mutation, environmental influence, and outcrossing were factors inducing variation in fluorescence characteristics of normal oat seed. Somatic mutations in several oat plants caused some tillers to produce fluorescent and others nonfluorescent seeds. Intermediate fluorescence probably does not exist genetically but was caused by an environmental influence. It appears that seed fluorescence should not be used as the sole criterion in determining varietal mixture in oat.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
