Factors influencing electricity consumption: a review of research methods

Abstract: Research Question: This paper presents a review of empirical methods used by authors to determine the influence of different groups of factors that influence households’ electricity consumption. Motivation: The question what drives electricity consumption is very complex and requires a systematic approach in analysis of different theory frameworks and factors. In the literature, there are a lot of attempts to classify a huge number of very different factors which could be heterogeneous. The review is built on … Show more

“…The fundamental phases in survey data analysis are coding the data, combining the codes into more comprehensive categories and themes, and interpreting the results. The study classifies factors of electrical energy saving behaviour into seven categories [43]. Then, policy implications and limits are examined and future research prospects.…”

“…RCT as a field experiment has been relatively recently used to address resource conservation and depletion of environmental externalities in the economy. Several field experiments have been carried out with the aim to determine effectiveness of interventions in household's electricity consumption [34]. Allcott (2011) showed that provision of social norm information to households can lead to an average 2% savings in electricity use [35].…”

“…Peak electricity consumption for industry is proxied by daily maximum electricity power [65][66][67] and the industrial production index. Electricity consumption in households can be also driven by daily maximum electricity power, cross-border transmission grid prices, monthly gross salary and gross domestic product as a macro-economic variable of the economic cycle [68][69][70][71][72].…”
