Factors Influence on Shrinkage of High Calcium Fly Ash Geopolymer Paste

Abstract: This research shows the progress of geopolymer synthesis based on high calcium fly ash. In this study, the fly ash contents of 60, 65, and 70 percents by weight and sodium hydroxide solution concentrations of 8 to 12 M were used. Alkali activators for the geopolymer synthesis consisted of sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and the weight ratio of Na2SiO3 to NaOH were 0.50, 1.00, and 1.50. Drying shrinkage deformation of geopolymer paste was investigated by longitudinal measurement in a room … Show more

“…Así mismo, es posible observar otro tipo de partículas de diferente morfología, las cuales pueden atribuirse a las fuentes de Ca sin reaccionar. En términos generales, en las micrografías es posible observar la aparición de microgrietas generadas tanto por la retracción del material, lo cual es característico en sistemas geopoliméricos con relaciones SiO 2 /Al 2 O 3 elevadas (Kamhangrittirong et al, 2013), como por el preacondicionamiento de las muestras antes de la realización del ensayo. …”

“…The appearance of these two gels is indicative of the formation of the geopolymer [26]. These products, in general, have a positive effect on the mechanical strength of the material [32,33]. The geopolymers have a denser structure as larger amounts of biomass bottom ash are added, according to the bulk density data.…”

“…Furthermore, the porosity of the produced geopolymer concrete depends mainly on the degree of fineness of the used aluminosilicate [26]. Another study by Kamhangrittirong et al depicts that the increase in the compressive strength of FA-based geopolymer concrete is mainly affected by the ratio of silica to alumina [27]. GGBS comes second after FA as an aluminosilicate that is used in the production of geopolymer concrete.…”
