“…The frequency of adverse drug-induced symptoms in our participants, i.e., 54% in the case of the female patients and 41% for the male patients, was related with the age of the study population, the average being 62.84 years, as well as the presence of various comorbidities such as CAD, HF, AF, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes, respiratory disorders, and diseases of the digestive system, i.e., factors which promote polypharmacy and, as a result, increase a patient's risk of any drug-related events [10].…”

“…On the other hand, 10.1% of 786 selected patients at a reference center for the treatment of arterial hypertension met the MDIS criteria, which is a similar level to that observed in our population of patients with chronic hypertension [10].In our study population, MDIS occurred more frequently in women, and this observation was consistent with earlier observations both among the general population and among patients with administered drugs, as well as in a selected population of patients with arterialhypertension [9-10] [12-13]A longer known duration of arterial hypertension was associated with a more frequent occurrence of MDIS, which is a new observation not documented in the available literature. This dependence may be due to the more advanced age of patients reporting any drug-induced side effects in our population, as well as originate from a reduced acceptance of arterial hypertension in patients with longer disease duration[14]. The comorbidities that increase the risk of MDIS among our patients include diseases of the respiratory and digestive systems, rheumatoid and endocrine diseases.…”

“…A higher number of comorbidities increases the risk of reduced acceptance of the underlying disease, i.e. arterial hypertension[14], which may translate into more meticulous patient reporting of ADRs, and as a consequence lead to a situation where the definition of MDIS is met more frequently.…”
