Factors Defining Human Adipose Stem/Stromal Cell Immunomodulation in Vitro

Marwa Mahmoud,
Mazen Abdel-Rasheed,
Eman Reda Galal
et al.

Abstract: Human adipose tissue-derived stem/stromal cells (hASCs) are adult multipotent mesenchymal stem/stromal cells with immunomodulatory capacities. Here, we present up-to-date knowledge on the impact of different experimental and donor-related factors on hASC immunoregulatory functions in vitro. The experimental determinants include the immunological status of hASCs relative to target immune cells, contact vs. contactless interaction, and oxygen tension. Factors such as the ratio of hASCs to immune cells, the cellu… Show more

“…This inhibition of the acute inflammatory reaction and cytokine production by ASCs contributes to a decrease in subsequent chronic inflammation and fibrosis. Moreover, the alleviation of tissue inflammation, enhancement of angiogenesis, and mitigation of oxidative stress further enhance their anti-fibrotic efficacy [ 108 , 109 ].…”

“…One point that has not been considered relevant in clinical trials but that is convenient to emphasize is the effect of age on D-MSCs. It is known that the biological properties of BM-MSCs and other sources decrease when they are obtained from older donors [263][264][265].…”
