Background: Traffic accidents can cause morbidity and mortality so preventive action is needed to overcome them. Purpose: to find out the factors associated with deaths from traffic accidents in Muaro Jambi Regency in 2019 to 2021. Methods: the type of research was case control. Secondary data was collected from the Muaro Jambi Resort Police Traffic Unit with a total sample 483 consist of 161 cases and 322 controls (1:2). The variables studied were the victim's age, sex, victim's role, vehicle’s type, direction of collision, day of accident, time of accident, weather, road surface’s type, traffic flow, availability of road markings, and shape of the road to the variables of death due to traffic accidents. To analysis the data, chi-square test and multiple logistic regression were used. Results: The risk factors for death due to traffic accidents in Muaro Jambi Regency were age, the role of victims, traffic flow, and road shape. The dominant factor was the victim’s role (OR = 3.14; 95% CI = 1.87-5.44) controlled by variables of victim’s age (>30 years-old OR = 1.61; 95% CI = 0.85-3.04; 18-30 years-old OR = 1.92; 95% CI = 1.01-3.68), traffic flow (OR = 1.64; 95% CI = 1.03-2.62), and road shape (OR = 1.24; 95% CI = 0.77-2.00). Conclusion: Driver aged 18-30 years, moderate to busy traffic flow, and straight roads increase the risk of death from traffic accidents. Drivers should wear traffic safety equipment such as helmets, seat-belt and increase alertness and caution when driving.

Background: Traffic accident injuries are a major public health problem. They include sufferings in terms of physical, emotional, and financial losses of the individual, family, and country. This study aimed to investigate the traffic accidents leading to injuries or deaths and its related factors in Yazd city, the center of Iran during 2016-2018. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive study that examined the causes of all traffic accidents registered in traffic police accidents in Yazd city (during 2016-2018). The data were collected using recorded checklists (accident information is recorded by traffic experts attending at the scene). Independent sample t-test, chi-square, and logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Result: The total number of people involved in these accidents were 1482, including 25 (1.2%) cyclists, 624 (30%) motorcyclists, 183 (8.8%) pedestrians, 321 (15.4%) passengers, and 929 (44.6%) vehicle drivers. Further, 1) Types of involved vehicles (light vehicles-58%), 2) occurrence time (4-8 p.m.-28.9%), 3) age of drivers (16 to 30 years old-41.1%), 4) educational status (diploma and high school-60.1%), and 5) gender (males-82.2%) were reported as contributing factors of accidents. Conclusion: Understanding the risk factors affecting the severity of accidents is required for the development of safety countermeasures. Control of unauthorized speed, and the serious warning for the use of helmets and seat belts could reduce the risk of injuries. Therefore, preventive measures and targeted interventions should be considered to reduce the risk of being involved in crashes.

Introduction: Road traffic crashes are a significant public health challenge in view of the high morbidity and mortality for which they are responsible. Objective: This study aims to describe the frequency and profile of road traffic crashes in the city of Lubumbashi. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2017. Included are all cases of vehicles registered with the road safety police, involved in a traffic crash. The data were processed using SPSS version 23 software (SPSS, Armonk, NY). Results: The study focused on 3495 cases of road traffic crashes registered with the road traffic police service from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2017. These crashes were caused mainly by male drivers (98.6%). January had a large number of road crashes (9.2%) followed by that of October (9.1%); with 17.9% of the cases, crashes were on a Sunday. In 10% of road crashes there were fatalities recorded. Night driving; driving downtown; the use of public transport vehicles as well as the fact of driving on a long straight road predisposed to fatal road crashes in Lubumbashi (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Roads are designed to allow human movement; however there is major risk of injury and death particularly in holiday months and at night. Awareness campaigns can be used as a tool to reduce the pandemic of life-threatening traffic accidents. Some health education channels like schools, churches, political parties, socio-cultural associations, trade unions can be useful for this purpose (road prevention).
