Factors associated with tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in patients treated at a tertiary referral hospital in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil
Abstract:Objective:
To evaluate the risk factors for the development of tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in patients treated at a tertiary referral hospital.
Methods:
This was a cross-sectional study based on data obtained from patients treated at the Júlia Kubitschek Hospital, located in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, between October of 2012 and October of 2014. We evaluated sociodemographic, behavioral, clinical, and radiological variables. The o… Show more

“…Merokok, IMT kelebihan berat badan dan obesitas memiliki risiko lebih tinggi terhadap kejadian TB, dengan statistik yang sangat bermakna, hal ini sesuai dengan penelitian terdahulu, semakin sering merokok, maka risiko semakin tinggi. Berat badan semakin gemuk memiliki risiko yang lebih tinggi pula (Hargreaves et al, 2011;Bilqishti, Sumekar and Larasati, 2020;Soares et al, 2020;Abdu et al, 2021).…”
Tuberculosis (TB) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Indonesia is the-3rd countries with high prevalence of TB. Social determinants of health can contribute to define the risk factors of TB. The study aimed to analyze the social determinants of TB by using secondary data from the IFLS 5. The survey used multistage sampling with cross-sectional study design. The sample size was 32.117 respondents. The results showed prevalence of TB was 0.95%. Social determinants of TB were age (OR=1.68; 95%C1=1.15-2.47), with p value <0.001. Male, smoking, overweight and obese had statistically significant correlation with TB with p value <0.001. Living in urban area (OR=1.41; 95%CI=1.09-1.82) and living in Java (OR=1.32;95%CI=1.01-1.72) were also social determinants of TB, statistically significant with p value = 0.008 and 0.040, respectively. In this study, the social determinants of TB were age, gender, marital status, smoking, BMI, having insurance, living in urban area, and living in Java. The evidence is important for policy makers to provide targeted program to decrease the prevalence of TB.
