The results of Riskesdas (Baseline Health Research) by the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2018 revealed that the caries rate in rural areas was higher than in urban areas. However, the number of villagers receiving dental and oral health care was lower than in urban communities. Karangtengah Village was located in the Baturraden District, Banyumas Regency, which is socio-demographically rural. This study aims to determine the correlation between knowledge and affective of oral health on the caries rate in Karangtengah Village. The study was observational analytical research. Subjects were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The total subjects were 388 residents. The knowledge and affective data were collected using a questionnaire, and the caries rate was scored using DMF-T. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test (SPSS 22). The results revealed that the oral health knowledge and affective of the majority of Karangtengah Village residents were in the moderate category (48.7% and 66.8%, respectively), while the average DMF-T score was 13.12 (very high). The statistical analysis demonstrated no significant correlation between knowledge and DMF-T score and between the affective aspect of oral health and DMF-T score (p0.5). The moderate category of oral health knowledge and affective aspect in rural areas may not have been applied as oral health behaviors contribute to high dental caries rates.

ObjectivesPhysiological changes during pregnancy make mothers susceptible to periodontal diseases, in particular gingivitis, which could be prevented by good oral hygiene. Therefore, their knowledge and attitude could affect their oral hygiene and general health. This study therefore aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding oral hygiene, of pregnant women living in a city in Iran.Material and MethodsIt was a cross‐sectional study that was performed in Urmia City in 2019. After completing an informed consent form, pregnant women completed a specially designed questionnaire, which included questions on demographic characteristics and assessed participants' knowledge and attitude about oral health care during pregnancy. A clinical examination of each participant's oral cavity was performed and dental plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), and number of decayed, missed, filled teeth (DMFT) index were recorded. Any correlations between participants' knowledge and attitude and oral health indices were evaluated. A paired t test and Pearson's correlation coefficient were employed for statistical analysis.ResultsA total of 96 pregnant women (mean age of 29.11 ± 6.80 years) participated in this study. Among them, 67 had a moderate level of knowledge. There was no significant correlation between participants' knowledge, and attitude levels and educational level (p = .88 and p = .43, respectively). Also, there was no correlation between knowledge and attitude levels and GI, PI, and DMFT (p > .05).ConclusionsThis study showed that the knowledge and attitude of the pregnant women who participated were not favorable and their oral hygiene needed to be improved.

Penyakit mulut menyebabkan gangguan rasa sakit, fungsi menelan, makan, mencicipi, tersenyum dan komunikasi. Penyakit ini merupakan masalah utama masyarakat, khususnya di kalangan orang miskin, orang yang tinggal di pinggiran, dan lansia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas promosi kesehatan dengan metode demonstrasi terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan perilaku kesehatan gigi dan mulut pada lansia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pre-eksperimental dengan teknik total sampling. Pengukuran pengetahuan menggunakan kuisioner dilakukan sebelum dan sesudah dilakukan perlakuan yaitu demonstrasi cara melakukan sikat gigi yang baik dan benar. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 45 subjek di ambil dari Panti Wredha, Dharma Bakti, Surakarta. Hasil penelitian dengan uji paired t-test menunjukkan perbedaan antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan dengan signifikansi p0.05. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa promosi kesehatan metode demonstrasi terbukti efektif untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan lansia terhadap perilaku kesehatan gigi dan mulut.
