Abstract: Alcohol use, poor responsiveness to NSAIDs, CRP elevation, SIJ MRI inflammation and spinal MRI inflammation in smokers were independently associated with radiographic lesions in early axial SpA.

“…Although long-term data are not yet available, in preliminary work only 11.6% of patients with nr-axSpA progressed to definite AS within 2 years in the GESPIC cohort and the proportion was even smaller in the DESIR cohort [17,18]. As expected, inflammation by laboratory tests and MRI is less common and less severe in nr-axSpA, which is also characterized by a lower radiological score [14,15]. The therapeutic efficacy of TNF␣ antagonists seems similar in nr-axSpA and AS [19][20][21].…”

“…The newly introduced nr-axSpA entity is defined as the presence of symptoms of axial spondyloarthritis (identical to those seen in AS) without radiographic sacroiliitis meeting mNY criteria. Importantly, nraxSpA belongs to the same disease spectrum as AS [14][15][16] and constitutes an independent entity as opposed to a mere transition toward AS. Although long-term data are not yet available, in preliminary work only 11.6% of patients with nr-axSpA progressed to definite AS within 2 years in the GESPIC cohort and the proportion was even smaller in the DESIR cohort [17,18].…”

“…Ces résultats confirment ceux de travaux antérieurs [42][43][44][45][46]. Logiquement, on retrouve aussi le fait d'avoir des lésions radiographiques de bas grade, insuffisantes pour confirmer le diagnostic de sacro-iliite selon les critères de New York, comme autre facteur de sacro-iliite ultérieure [45,47].…”
