“…A higher prevalence of thinness was found in boys in 17 studies, compared to two which found a higher prevalence in girls (Gamage & Jayawardana, 2017 ; Hassan et al, 2020 ). Five studies reported a higher prevalence of thinness in rural areas compared to urban areas across India and Pakistan, although two additional studies from India (Choudhuri & Balaram, 2020 ; Sutradhar & Choudhuri, 2017 ) did not find any significant differences. Family size, household income, maternal occupation and education, belonging to religious minorities and lower social class, low dietary diversity, water sanitation and hygiene practices, paternal education, physical inactivity and a history of illness were also reported as predictors of thinness (Radhika et al, 2018 ; Shinsugi et al, 2019 ; Young et al, 2020 ; van Tuijl et al, 2021 ).…”
