Objectives The study explored the perceptions of adult smokers with cardiovascular and respiratory diseases regarding cigarette smoking cessation. We also explored factors that may hinder or facilitate smoking cessation process. Design Qualitative descriptive exploratory design Sample Purposive sample of 13 adult smokers with cardiovascular or respiratory diseases visiting outpatient cardiac and respiratory clinics at a private tertiary care hospital Measurements In‐depth, face‐to‐face, and semi‐structured interviews were conducted. The interviews were digitally recorded and transcribed verbatim followed by a six steps process of manual thematic analysis of data. Results Meaningful statements were assigned codes and grouped into categories. Categories were clustered under three themes representing individual factors, socio‐cultural factors, and institutional factors. Conclusions Smoking cessation is influenced by personal, cultural, as well as social aspects. Institutionally, there is a need to recognize that smoking is a learned behavior; hence, prohibiting public smoking will potentially contribute to non‐smoking behaviors. Although the nature of misconceptions varies, this is imperative to ensure consistency in messaging, programming, and supports led by healthcare professionals.

This research delves into the intricate landscape of energy scheduling and optimization within microgrid and residential contexts, addressing pivotal aspects such as real-time scheduling systems, challenges in dynamic pricing, and an array of optimization strategies. This paper introduces a cutting-edge scheduling algorithm, harnessing the power of artificial neural networks driven by Long Short-Term Memory Networks, and highlights its exceptional performance, boasting a significantly lower Mean Absolute Error of 5.32 compared to conventional models. This heightened predictive accuracy translates into tangible improvements in both energy efficiency and cost savings. This study underscores the delicate balance between user satisfaction, cost reduction, and efficient scheduling for sustainable energy consumption, showcasing a remarkable 38% enhancement in optimized schedules. Further granularity revealed substantial gains in energy efficiency and cost reduction across different scheduling intensities: 11.11% in light schedules, 20.09% in medium schedules, and an impressive 38.85% in heavy schedules. However, this research does not shy away from highlighting challenges related to data quality, computational demands, and generalizability. Future research trajectories encompass the development of adaptive models tailored to diverse data qualities, enhancements in scalability for and adaptability to various microgrid configurations, the integration of real-time data, the accommodation of user preferences, the exploration of energy storage and renewables, and an imperative focus on enhancing algorithm transparency.

We aimed to determine factors related to tooth fracture experience in Korean adolescents. This study used data from the 14th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey in 2018, a cross-sectional web-based survey of health-risk behaviors among a representative sample of Korean middle- and high-school students aged 12–17 years. A total of 60,040 participants were selected using a complex sampling design of the survey from 400 middle schools and 400 high schools. They answered a self-administered questionnaire survey in classrooms. Explanatory variables included those pertaining to health-risk behaviors, mental health, and physical exercise. Complex-sample multivariable logistic regression models were applied to identify factors related to tooth fracture experience in the past 12 months. The overall prevalence of dental fracture experience was 11.4%. Risk factors related to tooth fractures in Korean adolescents were unhealthy behaviors such as alcohol and tobacco consumption; mental health problems including stress, depression, and suicidal ideation; and intensive physical exercise. The major risk factor related to tooth fractures was depression. To prevent tooth fractures among adolescents, schools should strengthen mental health education, encourage mouthguard use during intensive physical exercise, and develop school environments to prevent orofacial injuries. Further studies on various risk factors related to tooth fractures are warranted.
