Factors associated with lack of prenatal care in a large municipality

Abstract: OBJECTIVETo analyze the factors associated with a lack of prenatal care in a large municipality in southern Brazil.METHODSIn this case-control age-matched study, 716 women were evaluated; of these, 179 did not receive prenatal care and 537 received prenatal care (controls). “…A qualidade da assistência pré-natal nos níveis 1 e 2 de análise deste estudo, definidos, respectivamente, pelo acesso e pelo processo, foi considerada adequada e sofreu influência do número de gestações anteriores e da presença do Apoio Matricial nas unidades de saúde. Mesmo sendo um princípio garantido na Política Nacional de Atenção Obstétrica e Neonatal 19 , o risco relativo de as gestantes com um ou dois filhos anteriores terem pré-natal inadequado por questões relacionadas ao acesso e, de forma reflexa, com menor realização dos procedimentos clínico-obstétricos foi maior se comparado às primigestas, confirmando fato descrito por Rosa et al 20 e justificado por um contexto social materno adverso ou por experiências anteriores negativas em relação ao serviço de saúde.
