Factors Associated With Burden of Primary Headache in a Specialty Clinic

Abstract: The number of days per month with headache is a key determinant of headache-related burden in those attending specialty clinics. Frequent (chronic) headache is associated with significantly higher psychopathology scores and general social impairment, but the direction of this relationship is not clear. Those with migraine and chronicity are the most impaired.

“…Recently, the dimensional approach to the study of personality in migraine patients has been preferred because it allows a more careful identification of altered traits belonging to a psychopathological continuum. Use of the Zuckerman-Khulman’s or the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire revealed that migraine without aura is characterized by high degrees of neuroticism as well as tension-type headache [6, 26, 27]. Similarly, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory showed a personality profile characterized by high scores on the neurotic scale (hypochondria, depression, hysteria) in migraine patients [28].…”

“…Likewise, the association between headache and psychiatric disorders (the most common being between headache and depression and anxiety) has been extensively explored [1][2][3], as demonstrated by epidemiological and prospective studies [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Furthermore, subjects with a combination of anxiety disorders and major depression are more likely to have migraine compared with those with depression or anxiety only [3,13].…”

10 Berdasarkan survei pendahuluan, didapatkan data kunjungan penderita TTH di Instalasi Rawat Jalan Departemen Ilmu Penyakit Saraf Rumah Sakit Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung selama tahun 2010 sebanyak 1.302 orang.…”
