Factors Affecting Postoperative Lung Expansion in Patients with Pyogenic Empyema

Abstract: In patients with DM, bacteremia, or thickened pleura, the time to lung expansion after operation was longer. Therefore, stricter pre- and post-operative control of blood-sugar levels and adequate antibiotics are required to facilitate postoperative lung re-expansion. In patients with thickened pleurae, prolonged chest tube placement is unavoidable.
