Introduction: Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are assuming increasing importance among the adult population worldwide and one of the major emerging health problems affecting both males and females. Over the last few years, India is experiencing a rising burden of NCDs, which mainly includes: cardiovascular diseases, stroke, diabetes, cancer, MSD, chronic respiratory diseases, accidents and injuries and mental health. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted to find the epidemiological profile and prevalence of NCDs among 140 workers in a private Iron Ore Mine in Jharkhand. Results:The study revealed, most of the employees (47%) were pre-obese or obese with a Body Mass Index (BMI)> 25. 41% of the workers were smoker, 31% alcoholic. Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD), Hypertension and Diabetes found in 23%, 19% and 14% respectively. BMI was significantly associated (at p<0.05) with hypertension (x 2 =5.1171, p=0.023691) and diabetes (x 2 =4.8922, p=0.026979). Smoking also showed statistically significant association (x 2 =6.86, p=0.008815, p<0.05) with hypertension.Conclusions: NCDs were common among the mining workers. The study emphasized the need of communitybased wellness program along with some specific recommendations to prevent NCDs among the mining workers.

Background. Interpersonal conflicts are one of the causes of depressive syndromes among patients, which contribute to the development of arterial hypertension. Minimizing the risk of conflicts between elderly patients is necessary for providing effective therapy. Objectives. To identify and analyze the behavioral patterns of elderly people in conflict situations suffering from and not suffering from hypertension. Material and methods. The number of patients of the gerontological center who took part in the research amounted to 117 females (55+ years of age). The studies of the Thomas-Kilmann Instrument (TKI) conflict assessment methodology were used to identify the characteristics of the behavior of elderly patients in conflict situations. Results. The largest number of patients was identified as the leading conflict resolution strategy in both groups. We agree that a significant number of those studied could not decide on the leading strategy of behavior in the conflict and use two or more strategies to resolve conflict situations. Patients with hypertension have higher rates of resistance to conflict than those who do not have this disease. Conclusions. The strategy of adaptation is the leading strategy for resolving conflict situations among elderly people who have and have not been diagnosed with hypertension. This is why it was revealed that elderly people with hypertension have higher levels of resistance to conflict.

Background:The increase in life expectancy has particular relevance to conditions such as cognitive decline and dementia. Dementia is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that is on the rise globally. As the mechanism of dementia has not yet been understood completely; therefore, it is diffi cult to fi nd a proper and exact cure. Many people with dementia gradually progress towards the severe stage and the identifi cation of risk factors will help to better prediction, and prevention of the severe stage. The context and purpose of the study:This study aimed to test the effects of hypercholesterolemia, hypertension (HT), diabetes mellitus (DM), and heart disease, as well as socio-demographic factors, and nutritional elements on the severe stage of dementia in the elderly. This study recruited 2322 subjects who were non-institutionalized Malaysian elderly. The hierarchy binary logistic regression analysis was used to predict the effects of suspected variables on the risk of severe stage of dementia in subjects.Results: Approximately, 2.7% of samples experienced the severe stage of dementia. The results of the last step of analysis showed that age (odds ratio [OR]=2.44), and female gender (OR=3.12) increased signifi cantly the risk of severe stage of dementia in subjects (p<0.05). Hypercholesterolemia (OR=0.25), phosphorous intake (OR=0.26), and the capability of counting (OR=0.37) reduced signifi cantly the risk of severe stage of dementia. Conclusions:It was concluded that age, and female gender were the factors, which increased the risk of severe stage of dementia in samples. On the other hand, hypercholesterolemia, phosphorous intake, and counting capability decreased the risk of severe stage of dementia in subjects. In addition, the rest of variables did not show any signifi cant effects on the risk of severe stage of dementia in respondents.
