Factors Affecting e-Learning Acceptance among Students: The Moderating Effect of Self-efficacy

Abstract: This paper aims to investigate e-learning acceptance in Malaysian higher education institutions and the moderating effect of self-efficacy. This study is crucial as online and distance learning have grown in all education sectors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A valid sample of 414 survey responses from active students currently enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Malaysian higher education institutions was collected for data analysis. “…Indeed, it is also supported by the recent study as the self-efficacy does have self-influence toward gamification acceptance. The strongest student perceived their self-ability to use e-learning, the higher their acceptance toward technology in education (Latip et al, 2022). Finally, in answering objective (2), the results of the moderating analysis confirmed that gender had a significant impact on the link between performance expectancy and students' acceptance of gamification.…”

“…Indeed, the recent article revealed that self-efficacy act as a moderator in the relationship between performance expectations and e-learning acceptance. A high level of self-efficacy will increase the likelihood that students with performance expectations and social influence will adopt elearning in their daily life (Latip et al, 2020(Latip et al, , 2022. Therefore, it is deemed beneficial when gamification matches students' perceived performance.…”

“…Several ERT-related studies have emerged in the last two years to explore how students perceive this online approach to instruction and examine possible relationships with relevant variables [15]- [20]. One of the most important factors in evaluating online courses is whether students are satisfied with their experiences [14].…”

“…Self-efficacy also plays a moderating role in the relationship between learner-content interactions and perceived learning thus recommend that universities should design course content and assessment that is suitable to be implemented during online learning (Prabhu et al, 2022). By using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), Abdul Latip et al (2022) discovered that performance expectancy and social influence are moderated by self-efficacy toward acceptance of e-learning among undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Malaysian higher education institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, it is essential to establish a supportive virtual learning environment to increase students' self-efficacy since doing so can help them accept ODL.…”
