Factors affecting BIM application in China: a social network model

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to promote the application of building information modeling (BIM) in China’s construction industry, key factors and their relationships are explored. Design/methodology/approach Based on a literature review, 28 factors were extracted and their relationships (239 in total) obtained using the Delphi method. A social network model of the factors was constructed and factors were analyzed using social network analysis (SNA). Findings The top 10 key factors and their relation… Show more

“…Other local factors also affect BIM implementation. For example, employees in China view BIM as an innovation that is poorly defined (Tai et al , 2020). In Malaysia, BIM is reported to increase cost and time from reduced construction productivity (Ibrahim et al , 2019; Othman et al , 2020).…”

“…The analysis results of centrality indicate that the degree and closeness centrality of most nodes increased after BIM use. Pryke [ 64 ] and Tai et al [ 69 ] noted that the greater the degree of centrality, the more the other nodes connected to this node, indicating the higher the importance of this node. Moreover, the greater the closeness centrality of a node, the closer it is to others.…”

“…Culture is a complex whole, customs, and other abilities, as well as habits acquired by humans as those which contain science, belief, art, morality, law, members of society (Ranjabar, 2006). Culture orientation is one of the critical success factors in implementing BIM (Amuda-Yusof, 2017;Tai et al, 2020;Chen et al, 2018) and job performance (Javeria et al, 2015). The culture orientation aspect provides a basis in explaining the most significant factors that industry stakeholders should focus their attention on for a successful implementation of BIM.…”

“…ICT has introduced BIM as a tool to manage construction projects effectively (Sundaraj, 2006). It was created as a result of integrating ICT in the construction industry processes (Roslan et al, 2019;Tai et al, 2020). This leads to the hypothesis of; H5: ICT utilization is positively related to the job performance.…”
