Aunque el índice de Sensibilidad a la Ansiedad (ASI; Reiss, Peterson, Gursky y McNally, 1986) es la escala más utilizada para la evaluación de la sensibilidad a la ansiedad (SA), su estructura aún no se conoce con precisión. En el presente estudio se analiza la estructura factorial de la versión española de la ASI con una muestra de 726 estudiantes universitarios (con un rango de edad de 18-34 años). Se ponen a prueba varios modelos alternativos, incluido un modelo factorial jerárquico. Los análisis factoriales exploratorios y confirmatorios indican que la ASI posee una estructura jerár-quica compuesta por 3 factores primarios y 1 factor de orden superior; los factores primarios se corresponden con los referidos por Zinbarg, Barlow y Brown (1997) y Stewart, Taylor y Baker (1997): SA-somática, SA-cognitiva y SA-social. No existían diferencias entre grupos de sexo. Dimensions ofanxiety sensitivity: Confirmatory evidence for a hierarchic structureAlthough the Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI; Reiss, Peterson, Gursky & McNally, 1986) is the most frequently used measure of the anxiety sensitivity construct, its dimensionality is yet a controversial issue. The present study examined the factor structure of the Spanish ASI in a sample of 726 university students (ranging in age from 18 to 34 years). The authors tested soma current alternative models, including a hierarchical factor model. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses indicated a hierarchical factor structure consisting of 3 lower-order factors and 1 higher-order factor; the lowerorder factors were conceptually similar to the ones reported by Zinbarg, Barlow & Brown (1997) and Stewart, Taylor & Baker (1997), i.e., physical concerns, cognitive dyscontrol concerns, and social concerns. No differences were found between males and females. Some implications of these findings for psychopathology ofanxiety disorders are discussed.

The factor structure and convergent and discriminant validity of the Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI) were examined among a sample of 275 island Puerto Ricans. Results from a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) comparing our data to factor solutions commonly reported as representative of European American and Spanish populations indicated a poor fit. A subsequent exploratory factor analysis (EFA) indicated that a two-factor solution (Factor 1, Anxiety Sensitivity; Factor 2, Emotional Concerns) provided the best fit. Correlations between the ASI and anxiety measures were moderately high providing evidence of convergent validity, while correlations between the ASI and BDI were significantly lower providing evidence of discriminant validity. Scores on all measures were positively correlated with acculturation, suggesting that those who ascribe to more traditional Hispanic culture report elevated anxiety. #

Metacognitive beliefs have emerged as important to health anxiety, particularly beliefs that health-related thoughts are uncontrollable. Preliminary research examining generalized worry indicates uncontrollability beliefs relate more strongly to anxiety among US-based self-identifying White relative to Black college students. The present study sought to extend that line of research by examining if metacognitive beliefs about the uncontrollability of health-related thoughts differentially relate to health anxiety among self-identifying non-Latinx Black (n = 123), Latinx (n = 104) and non-Latinx White (n = 80) US-based primary care patients. As predicted, although positive associations were seen across all three groups, beliefs that health-related thoughts are uncontrollable more strongly related to health anxiety among White patients compared to both Black and Latinx patients. Those differential relations held in multivariate analyses while statistically controlling for positive depression screening status, generalized anxiety symptom severity and medical morbidity. Although the effect size surrounding the differential relations was small in magnitude, the present results further support the notion that metacognitive beliefs about uncontrollability relate less strongly to anxiety among US-based ethnoracial minorities compared to White individuals. Potential reasons for the differential relations are discussed, along with additional areas for future research.
