Factor Analytic Study of Lecturer’s Teaching Assessment Scale in Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria

Abstract: This study presents a validation report of the Lecturer's Teaching Assessment Scale (LTAS) developed for the assessment of lecturer's teaching effectiveness in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. It also examined the factor structure of the LTAS, its construct validity, and internal consistency reliability coefficients. The study adopted the survey research design. A total of 13,000 students that completed the LTAS online constituted the sample for the study. The 34-item LTAS was used to collect data… Show more

“…The researcher should first conduct the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) measure of sampling adequacy and Bartlett's test of sphericity to determine the suitability of the respondent data for FA (Williams et al, 2010). The KMO index lies between 0 and 1; a KMO index of 0.5 and above is acceptable for FA (Jegede et al, 2015;Yong and Pearce, 2013). KMO and MSA (individual measures of sampling adequacy for each item) test whether there are a significant number of factors in the dataset.…”

“…In EFA data is simply explored for information about the number of factors required to represent the original variables and how all measured variables are related to every latent variable, but in CFA the researcher can specify the number of factors to extract and which measured variable is related to which factor (latent variable). CFA is simply a tool used to confirm or reject the measurement theory (Jegede et al, 2015). In most cases, variables and factors from EFA are fed into a structural equation model, which is then used in CFA (Nora and Cabrera, 1993).…”

“…Various criteria and varying parameters have been used by different authors. [3] Used 34 items among which were punctuality, teaching for the whole period, encourage students to answer question etc. The mean and standard deviation of the items were found.…”
