When studying the entire history of philosophy, K. Marx wrote: "All genuine philosophy is the spiritual quintessence of its time"(Marx & Engels, 2002). It is understood that the birth of philosophy was conditioned by contemporary socio-historical conditions and other theories and ideas that contribute to the spiritual appearance of that era. Not outside the above rule, the process of arising and developing Greek philosophy in general and of Aristotle's political thought, in particular, is a reflection and is maintained by historical, economic, and political conditions - Ancient Greek society. F. Engels wrote: "Without slavery, there would be no Greek state, no Greek art, and science" (Marx & Engels, 2002). Therefore, the study of Aristotle's political thought must be placed in the historical conditions of its formation. Within the scope of the article, the author focuses on analyzing historical conditions for the forming of Aristotle's political thought in terms of natural, economic - social, and cultural-political conditions.

This comment occurs in the closing sequence of theepitaphiosof 431/0 attributed to Pericles. The speech was delivered at the public funeral held for Athenian casualties in the first year of the Archidamian War. The earlier part of the speech was devoted to praise of the characteristics, practices, and values of the Athenians as a democratic and imperial community. The features which Pericles is reported as stressing were those which ‘made Athens great’, those by which her dominance was shown. From these is derived the glory achieved by those who died ‘as became Athenians’ (2.43).

I aim in this study to extract from the fragments of Solon’s poetry evidence for what the Athenian demos expected from Solon’s archonship. I assume that where Solon discusses the demos, he necessarily alludes to demotic demands. Solon’s testimony shows the demos to have been concerned primarily with three issues: the enslavement of Athenians, redistribution of land, and establishment of a tyranny. I conclude that the demos expected, vainly, Solon to end the enslavement of their numbers, to redistribute land, and to achieve these goals by establishing himself as a tyrant if necessary.
