With the development of industrialization, soils around the world have been polluted by heavy metals and oil to different degrees in recent years, and soil remediation has become a global problem. Phytoremediation has a wide application prospect because of its environmental friendliness and easy availability of materials.ObjectiveTo explore the effects of soil types and root exudates on the removal of cadmium and petroleum hydrocarbon in soils.MethodA pot experiments with three soil types (sandy, loamy and clayey) of the Changning-Weiyuan area of Sichuan province and three root exudates (citric acid, glycine, and maltose) were carried out using Sorghum sudanense (Piper) Stapf., Lolium perenne L., and Festuca arundinacea L. as test materials. Plants were grown in soils contaminated by cadmium and petroleum at different concentrations.ResultThe biomass of S. sudanense, the translocation ratio and removal rate of cadmium in S. sudanense decreased gradually with increasing soil cadmium concentration. The promotion effects of the three root exudates on S. sudanense were in the following order: citric acid > glycine > maltose. At the same cadmium pollution conditions, the biomass levels of S. sudanense in sandy, loamy, and clayey soils were in the following order: clayey soil > loamy soil > sandy soil. On the contrary, the concentration, translocation ratio, and removal rate of cadmium in S. sudanense grown in the different soils treated with root exudates were in the following order: sandy soil > loamy soil > clayey soil. Under the three soil conditions, the fresh weight of F. arundinacea (0.36 ~ 0.68 g) and S. sudanense (0.51 ~ 0.99 g) increased significantly (p < 0.05). The total petroleum hydrocarbons degradation efficiencies of F. arundinacea, L. perenne, and S. sudanense were high in sandy soil (34.27% ~ 60.52%). Changing the type of root exudate had a significant impact on the degradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons in sandy soil (p < 0.05).ConclusionThis study showed that soil types impacted the accumulation of cadmium and petroleum in plants. Phytoremediation of cadmium and petroleum contaminated soil could be enhanced by the application of root exudates. This study recommend that the method is suitable for field remediation of soils contaminated with mild cadmium and petroleum hydrocarbons.

Under the task requirements of China’s 3rd national land survey on the grade determination of cultivated land, research on a reasonable and unified survey and evaluation system of cultivated land quality (CLQ) is of great importance. From the three dimensions of agricultural climate, production potential, and health status components of cultivated land, six factors are selected in this study to construct a set of simple, practicable, and operable county-level CLQ survey and evaluation system. These factors are climate conditions of cultivated land, soil characteristics, tillage conditions, the attributes of cultivated land type, environmental conditions, and biological activity. The developed survey and evaluation system meets the demands of national engineering for the inclusion and coordination of multiple departments based on the current evaluation system and evaluation methodology of all relevant land administrative departments. Wen County, Henan Province is used for field verification and evaluation. Results demonstrate that the average quality index of cultivated land in Wen County is 2196.33, ranging from 660.70 to 2802.96 with the largest area of the first-class and second-class land accounting for 20.98% and 52.61% of the county’s cultivated land, respectively; the third-class and fourth-class land, 12.63% and 13.78%. The obvious regional differentiation characteristics are presented along the boundary of Qingfengling with the quality of northern cultivated land higher than that in the south. The comparison with the results of the national utilization gradation in 2018 infers that they are in accordance with the distribution of CLQ, which bears a significant positive correlation trend with the measured grain output of the field. The constructed evaluation system serves as a rewarding attempt of a unified survey and evaluation of CLQ at the county scale to reflect the production capacity of local crops, realize the sharing of data platforms, save manpower and capital investment, improve the practical connection of supervision and management of cultivated land protection in different departments, and meet the requirements of current cultivated land protection and management.

The contradiction between population and cultivated land has always been an urgent global problem, and one that is particularly prominent in China. Based on the spatial–temporal evolution of cultivated land, this paper discusses the human–land contradiction and its development trend. Then, according to the threshold of human–land contradiction and different protection objectives, the priority protection area of cultivated land was simulated. The results showed that: (1) the cellular automata (CA)–Markov model is suitable for the study area. The cultivated land in the study area increased at a rate of 4.40 sq km per year; (2) the spatial and temporal change in the cultivated land in Songpan was the largest. The center of gravity of cultivated land is moving to the northeast, and the moving rate is increasing year on year; (3) 90% of the study area was in the human–land coordination and the change in the ratio of accumulation and cultivation in some areas (such as Songpan) is increasing, making the human–land contradiction worse; (4) under a protection target of 25–100%, the priority protection area of cultivated land increased from 2.05 × 103 km2 to 3.46 × 103 km2, and the patch aggregation degree was strengthened. This study was of great significance for optimizing the distribution of cultivated land and promoting the sustainable development of land resources.
