Although the latest energy-efficient buildings use a large number of sensors and measuring instruments to predict consumption more accurately, it is generally not possible to identify which data are the most valuable or key for analysis among the tens of thousands of data points. This study selected the electric energy as a subset of total building energy consumption because it accounts for more than 65% of the total building energy consumption, and identified the variables that contribute to electric energy use. However, this study aimed to confirm data from a building using clustering in machine learning, instead of a calculation method from engineering simulation, to examine the variables that were identified and determine whether these variables had a strong correlation with energy consumption. Three different methods confirmed that the major variables related to electric energy consumption were significant. This research has significance because it was able to identify the factors in electric energy, accounting for more than half of the total building energy consumption, that had a major effect on energy consumption and revealed that these key variables alone, not the default values of many different items in simulation analysis, can ensure the reliable prediction of energy consumption.

Facility management is the multidisciplinary kind of work that covers a wide range of various activities, responsibilities, and knowledge. Facility management provides and manages a variety of support services in order to prepare all the organisational functions, putting the accent on an integration of primary activities in strategic, tactical, and operational levels. In the final decade of the previous century, facility management industry emerged as one of the fastest growing sectors at the international level. Nowadays, the importance of the facility management is readily acknowledged in many companies worldwide, which recognises the necessity of properly managing elaborate and expensive support facilities. The tasks are multidisciplinary and cover a wide range of activities, responsibilities, and knowledge, because every aspect of an organisation may come under the competency of the facility management. The main aim of the paper is to point out the well-founded applicability of the global facility management in companies, which in order to achieve the competitive advantage correctly strengthened the corporate core business and shift the support activities into the management of a specialist in this field. The paper also covers the scope of the facility management in the international context, and also in the Slovak Republic, considering the specificities of individual countries.

There has been general recognition within the construction industry that there is a discrepancy between the amount of energy that buildings actually use and what designers considered that they should use. This phenomenon is termed "The Performance Gap" and is normally associated with new buildings. However, existing and older buildings contribute a greater amount of operational carbon. In response to the Performance Gap, CIBSE have developed the TM54 process which is aimed at improving energy estimates at design stage. This paper considers how the TM54 process can also be used to develop energy management procedures for existing buildings. The paper describes an exercise carried out for a university workshop building in which design energy use has been compared with the actual building energy use and standard benchmarks. Moreover, a sensitivity assessment has been carried out using different scenarios based on operation hours of building/ equipment, boiler efficiency and impact of climate change. The analysis of these results showed high uncertainty in estimates of energy consumption. If carbon challenges are to be met then improved energy management techniques will require a more systematic approach so that facilities managers can identify energy streams and pinpoint problems, particularly where they have assumed responsibility for existing buildings which often have a legacy of poorly metered fuel consumption.
