“…Sixty‐one percent recommended use of a spleen guard in activities they considered as high risk. The literature on usage and efficacy of spleen guards is limited to a single case report of an 18‐year‐old male basketball player with splenomegaly and PHTN secondary to autoimmune hepatitis, who played competitive basketball with a customized spleen guard (3). It is reported that the outer shell of his spleen guard was damaged during play without injury to the inner layer touching the patient's skin providing some proof of principle for the use of the guard.…”
