Facile synthesis of sea urchin-like magnetic copper silicate hollow spheres for efficient removal of hemoglobin in human blood

Abstract: Well-defined superparamagnetic Fe 3 O 4 /Metal-Silicate(Cu 2+ , Ni 2+ , Mg 2+ ) hollow spheres were fabricated using magnetite nanoparticles/silicon dioxide(denoted as SiO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 ) as templates. Firstly, monodisperse SiO 2 spheres were obtained by classical stöber method, and SiO 2 @Fe 3 O 4 nanocomposites were fabricated in one-pot procedure through a solvothermal method, which were then converted into Fe 3 O 4 /Metal-Silicate with hollow nanostructure by hydrothermal reaction between the silica core and… Show more

“…The SiO 2 coating protected the Ni core from air oxidation and modied the surface by minimizing the curvature thereof. 18,24 The Ni/SiO 2 spheres were treated hydrothermally in basic medium and with a copper salt to form CuSiO 3 shells by the reaction of silicate anions from SiO 2 in the alkaline solution with the copper ions from dissolved Cu(NO 3 ) 2 $3H 2 O.…”

“…21,22 Core-shell composites having CuSiO 3 as the shell have been used as microwave absorbers due to the enhanced polarization obtained with the highly dielectric CuSiO 3 shell and a magnetic core. [21][22][23][24][25] The combination of CuSiO 3 as the shell with a Ni magnetic core would be advantageous because more interfaces could be created, along with enhanced polarization. Furthermore, a design with a variable shell thickness would facilitate impedance matching between the EM properties (3 and m) of the core-shell nanospheres because the shell thickness has a strong inuence on 3 and m. Notably, the 3 value can be easily tuned by controlling the shell (CuSiO 3 ) thickness of Ni/CuSiO 3 composite nanospheres.…”

“…In addition to LDHs, metal silicates with three-dimensional (3D) hierarchical structures have also attracted extensive interest and attention because of their potential in catalysis and adsorption. [105][106][107][108][109][110] Particularly, metal silicates have been considered as excellent supports for metal nanoparticlebased catalysts due to their large surface area from the hierarchical structures, high thermal/chemical stability, and 30 This is © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2022 controllable pore size and geometries, which could the catalytic activity of the fabricated catalysts. 111,112 So far, many transition metals such as Ni, Cu, and Mn have been prepared from the corresponding silicates via thermochemical reduction using hydrogen or methane as a reductant.…”

“…46 Likewise; various organic, inorganic adsorption materials and their hybrids, hollow spheres, hollow microtubes, magnetic CNTs and nanocomposites have been fabricated for wastewater treatment. [47][48][49][50][51] Among them, some have greater adsorption capacity for cationic and anionic dyes, while others have a high adsorption capacity for heavy metal ions. These adsorbents also contain graphene and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) which show enhanced adsorption efficiency, however, their toxicity and non-biodegradability limit their applications in water treatment.…”
