Facile synthesis of poly(p-phenylenediamine)/MWCNT nanocomposites and characterization for investigation of structural effects of carbon nanotubes

Abstract: Poly(p-phenylenediamine) (PpPD)/carboxylic acid-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (c-MWCNTs) nanocomposites were prepared by chemical oxidative polymerization using potassium persulfate (K 2 S 2 O 8 ) as an oxidant. Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and field-emission transmission electron microscopy (FE-TEM) showed that a tubular layer of PpPD was coated on the surface of carbon nanotubes with a thickness of 10-20 nm. FT-IR analysis provided an evidence for the formation of nanoco… Show more

“…Recently, aromatic diamine polymers are generally considered more attractive since they exhibit more novel multifunctionality than polyaniline derivatives because of one free amino group per repetitive unit on the former polymer chains [18,19]. Thus, aromatic diamines have been applied in design and synthesis of new polymers with the aim of acquiring better chemical functionality and physicochemical properties.…”

“…The carboxylic group in GO was reduced, and one of the two primary amine groups in the pPDA molecule was oxidized. 21,31 Then, GO acted as the oxidizing agent for the oxidative polymerization process. The chemical oxidative polymerization of pPDA in acidic medium resulted in fine, uniform polymer particles.…”
