Facile synthesis, characterization of nano-tungsten trioxide decorated with silver nanoparticles and their antibacterial activity against water-borne gram-negative pathogens

Abstract: In the present work, silver decorated tungsten trioxide (WO 3 ) metal-oxide semiconducting nanoparticles were synthesized using a facile wet impregnation technique for inactivation of harmful water-borne gram-negative pathogens. The structural and morphological properties of self-synthesized pure WO 3 nanoparticles (n-WO 3 ) and different weight percentage of Ag metal (3 and 5%) loaded WO 3 (3% n-Ag/WO 3 , 5% n-Ag/WO 3 ) were analyzed by XRD, SEM, TEM and SAED. The loading of Ag on n-WO 3 was confirmed by TEM … Show more

“…These results can be ascribed to the superior antibacterial properties of MgO. However, PBAT/MgO@CTAB exhibits better antibacterial efficiency against S. aureus than against E. coli, which is similar to other studies in the literature [31][32][33][34]. This phenomenon is ascribed to the fact that the peptidoglycan membrane of the Gram-positive bacteria S. aureus is much thicker than that of the Gram-negative bacteria E. coli, and as a result, the released Mg ions do not easily penetrate the peptidoglycan membrane and disrupt the essential enzyme systems in the bacteria.…”

“…The significant variation was obtained with the increasing concentration of x content. The obtained results proved, that the antifungal activity was relatively increased with the elevated concentration of 'x' content and goes in agreement with some previous studies, which stated the same effect, on combination of several metallic NPs [40,30,43,44].…”
