A novel Bi2S3-zinc oxide/cellulose acetate composite film was prepared through a blending-wet phase conversion and in situ precipitate method. The results revealed that the incorporation of Bi2S3 in the film increased the cavity density and uniformity, which provided additional space for the growth of active species and improved the interaction between dye pollutants and active sites. Zinc oxide acted as a mediator to facilitate the separation of electron–hole pairs effectively preventing their recombination, thus reducing the photo-corrosion of Bi2S3. As a result, the Bi2S3-ZnO/CA composite film exhibited favorable photocatalytic activity in the degradation of various dyes. Additionally, the composite film displayed effortless separation and recovery without the need for centrifugation or filtration, while maintaining its exceptional catalytic performance even after undergoing various processes.

The novel ternary composites BiOBr-TiO2-attapulgite (BTA) were synthesized using a simple hydrothermal and water-bath method, exhibiting excellent photocatalytic performance to multiple xanthates. For the BTA photocatalyst, TiO2 and BiOBr were uniformly loaded onto the surface of acid-activated attapulgite. As a widely used collector in mining processes, sodium ethyl-xanthate (SEX) was selected as the target pollutant due to its high toxicity. The BTA ternary photocatalyst demonstrated significantly higher adsorption and photocatalytic degradation performance compared to TiO2 nanoparticles, BiOBr nanosheets, and BiOBr-TiO2 heterojunction. Structural characterization and experimental results indicated that the exceptional photocatalytic degradation efficiency of BTA was mainly attributed to the formation of a heterojunction between BiOBr and TiO2, as well as the presence of additional active adsorption sites provided by attapulgite. Free radical scavenging experiments and EPR results confirmed that the photogenerated holes were the predominant active species in photodegrading SEX throughout the entire experiment. The LC-MS results provided insight into potential degradation pathways of SEX. This research demonstrates that BTA, as a novel triple composite material, achieves rapid and complete degradation to 20 mg/L SEX within 20 min. This work presents a novel approach to synthesize mineral-based photocatalysts, which have broad prospects for application in flotation wastewater treatment.

BackgroundIn our rapidly expanding society, the demand for clean water has steadily emerged as one of the most critical issues, promoting the development of numerous water treatment strategies.AimsCoupling photocatalysis and membrane separation technology provides an energy saving and environment‐friendly as well as sustainable method for aqueous pollutants removal due to the synergetic enhanced pollutant removal efficiency and improved anti‐fouling performance. It is of great scientific and technical significance to construct multifunctional photocatalysis‐membrane separation reactor systems (PMRs) with both the high photocatalytic activity and the strong stability.DiscussionHerein, in order to introduce the recent advances of this field, we present a critical review on developments of PMRs for aqueous pollutant removal, which includes photocatalysts and membranes, advanced methods for designing PMRs. Meanwhile, the recent applications of PMRs in aqueous pollutant removal, antifouling strategies, and mechanisms have also been summarized, including the latest development of PMRs coupling with other treatment methods. Furthermore, future perspective of PMRs is outlooked and predicted.ConclusionPMRs, designed for the removal of aqueous pollutants, offer a more promising solution for the sustainable development of our society in the future.
