Facile Determination of Molecular Structure Trends in Amphiphilic Core Corona Star Polymer Synthesis via Dielectric Property Measurement

Abstract: The use of dielectric property measurements to define specific trends in the molecular structures of poly(caprolactone) containing star polymers and/or the interbatch repeatability of the synthetic procedures used to generate them is demonstrated. The magnitude of the dielectric property value is shown to accurately reflect: (a) the number of functional groups within a series of materials with similar molecular size when no additional intermolecular order is present in the medium, (b) the polymer molecular siz… Show more

“…With reference to Figure A, the arms of the star polymers with diblock or triblock copolymers are called star‐block copolymers, where the properties of both block copolymers and star‐shaped polymers are amalgamated. In functionalized star‐shaped polymers or functionalized stars as in Figure D, functional groups may be present on the arms, or at the ends of each of the arms.…”

“…Star‐shaped polymers are a class of branched macromolecules with more than three linear arms radiating from a central core . When the arms are equivalent in both structure and chain length, they are considered to be homogeneous star‐shaped polymers.…”

“…Microwaves as a heat source have been known to lower the reaction temperature and time [9,10] to make synthesis processes more commercially viable, eco-friendly, and it reduces the potential of the generation of unwanted by-products [11,12]. Therefore, microwave assisted synthesis was also considered to validate the obvious advantage of this technique.…”
