Facile Decoration of Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes with Hetero-oligophenylene Stabilized-Gold Nanoparticles: Visible Light Photocatalytic Degradation of Rhodamine B Dye

Abstract: A hetero-oligophenylene derivative 3 has been designed and synthesized which forms fluorescent spherical aggregates in mixed aqueous media due to its aggregation-induced emission enhancement characteristics. These fluorescent aggregates act as a ratiometric probe for the detection of gold ions in aqueous media and serve as reactors and stabilizers for the preparation of gold nanoparticles. The in situ generated gold nanoparticles have been decorated on multiwalled carbon nanotubes to form AuNPs@MWCNTs nanohybr… Show more

“…The XRD peaks of MWCNTs at 2θ values of 26° and 43° correspond to (002) and (101) planes, respectively . Conversely, the peaks patterns at 2θ values of 38.18°, 44.28°, 64.62°, and 77.4° correspond to (111), (200), (220), and (311) planes of face-centered cubic AuNPs. ,, The intensity of the peak at 26° was found to be attenuated after the decoration of AuNPs on MWCNTs (Figure b) …”

“…The mixture was refluxed at 200 • C under magnetic stirring for 6 h. Then, MWCNTs were washed with deionized water several times to remove residues and reduce the pH values below 7. The purified samples were collected by centrifugation at 4000 rpm, and the samples were dried in the oven (Aboutalebi et al, 2011;Kaur et al, 2015).…”

“…CNTs have excellent mechanical (Chen et al, 2003), electrical conductivity (Xu et al, 1999), magnetic (Zhan et al, 2003), corrosion resistance (Dhinakaran et al, 2013;Chen et al, 2005), and unique electronic and thermal stability properties (Kuzumaki et al, 1998;Andrews et al, 1999) which make them a great alternative as the support material in heterogeneous Fenton catalysis. Also, the large surface area and stability suggest CNTs as the ideal material for hosting other nanoparticles (Kaur et al, 2015). CNTs could be decorated with nanoparticles due to their extensive potential for adsorption and catalysis (Gul et al, 2010;Wan et al, 2015).…”

“…Techniques such as adsorption, occulation, chemical oxidation, electrolysis, and biological treatments have been extensively applied in dye wastewater treatment. [8][9][10][11] Among these techniques, the adsorption process is regarded as an attractive alternative, especially when the adsorbent is inexpensive and readily available. 12,13 Many adsorbents, such as activated carbon, peat, clay, silica, algae, fungi, etc., have been investigated to remove dyes in aqueous solutions.…”
