Facile Cleavage of Organochalcogen Hybrid (NEEN, NEN, EN, where E = Se or Te) Ligand C−E and E−E Bonds by Pd(II)

Abstract: The synthesis and characterization of chiral hybrid ligand R 2 *Se 2 (R* ) 2-Me 2 NCH(Me)C 6 H 4 ) (9) and some of its derivatives is described. The reaction of 9 with a Pd(II) chloride complex leads to cleavage of the Se-Se bond and formation of the corresponding areneselenenyl chloride, R*SeCl (18). However, reactions of [RS; RS] and [SR; SR] bis[2-{1-(dimethylamine)ethyl}ferrocenyl] diselenides (7 and 8) with a Pd(II) chloride complex under identical conditions afford dinuclear complexes [PdCl{(SeC 5 H 3 CH… Show more

“…For instance, diselenide (Me 2 NCH 2 CH 2 Se) 2 [31]. Very recently, Singh and co-workers have reported the cleavage reactions of a series of a related chiral and achiral multidentate selenium and tellurium ligands (1aec: Chart 1) with palladium(II) precursor [32]. Diselenide 1b provided a selenolate bridged dinuclear complex 2a on reaction with Pd(COD)Cl 2 .…”

“…In addition to this, organotellurium compounds have been used in catalytic carbon-carbon formation. Bridged dimers of palladium mediated by Se (Nakata et al, 2009;Chakraborty et al, 2011;Oilunkaniemi et al, 1999;Oilunkaniemi et al, 2001;Brown & Corrigan, 2004;Dey et al, 2006) or Te (Oilunkaniemi et al, 2000;Kaur et al, 2009;Dey et al, 2006) have been previously reported. Such dimers involving two square planar coordination spheres can adopt either a coplanar or hinged arrangement.…”
