Five 3rd-order depositional sequences are interpreted from the early Albian to late Campanian interval in the Potiguar Basin. An integrated analysis of seismic interpretations, well logs, cores and biostratigraphic data provides a stratigraphic framework composed by stratigraphic surfaces, systems tracts and sequences. Depositional Sequence 1 and 2 are, respectively, Albian and early to mid-Cenomanian aged and are composed by the falling stage, low stand, transgressive and high stand systems tracts. Depositional Sequence 3 is late Cenomanian to mid-Turonian aged and is composed by the transgressive and high stand systems tracts. Depositional sequences 4 and 5 are, respectively, late Turonian to mid-Santonian and late Santonian to mid-Campanian aged and are composed only by transgressive and high stand systems tracts. The lack of falling stage and low stand systems tracts in depositional sequences 3, 4 and 5, as well the increasing in transgressive and highstand systems tracts thickness as depositional sequences get younger, are reflection of an overall transgressive trend of a 2nd-order sequence. The interpretation proposed in this paper correlates onshore with offshore deposits within a seismic scale (3rd-order) sequence stratigraphy framework. This approach allows a better understanding of the Açu Formation, the primary oil-bearing formation of the Potiguar Basin. The Açu Formation is part of depositional sequences 1, 2 and 3 and is characterized by lateral and vertical variations of depositional systems instead of being associated to a specific depositional system. This sequence stratigraphy analysis can be used as a low-resolution framework for future high-resolution (4th-order scale) studies.

Disponível on-line no endereço www.igc.usp.br/geologiausp -71 - ResumoNesse trabalho são apresentados os procedimentos metodológicos envolvidos no imageamento digital de paleocavernas colapsadas com ground penetrating radar (GPR), que ocorrem em tufas carbonáticas, situadas na borda oeste da Bacia Potiguar. Foi mapeada uma área em Quixeré (CE) e selecionado um afloramento na rodovia CE-377, denominado de Afloramento Quixeré. Em uma porção desta área foi confeccionado um fotomosaico e levantada uma seção-teste, com o GPR, para a comparação e parametrização das geometrias cársticas (aflorantes e as imageadas na linha geofísica). Os resultados foram satisfatórios e permitiram a adoção de critérios para a interpretação das paleocavernas colapsadas nas outras seções GPR, levantadas na região do afloramento. Foram adquiridas duas malhas de linhas GPR, a primeira mais ampla e espaçada norteou a locação da segunda, mais adensada, na porção sul do Afloramento Quixeré. Nos radargramas foram interpretadas e parametrizadas as geometrias das principais paleocavernas colapsadas. Para cada malha foi elaborado um modelo de sólido digital do Afloramento Quixeré, sendo que o primeiro modelo permitiu o reconhecimento da distribuição geral das tufas e a localização das paleocavernas colapsadas, enquanto o segundo modelo digital, por ser mais detalhado, possibilitou não apenas a individualização 3D das principais paleocavernas mas também o cálculo dos seus respectivos volumes. Os modelos de sólidos digitais são aqui apresentados como uma nova fronteira no estudo de afloramentos análogos a reservatórios (hídricos ou petrolíferos), na qual a parametrização e a caracterização volumétrica dos corpos geológicos passam a ser fundamental para compor bancos de dados, que conjuntamente com informações de propriedades petrofísicas serão utilizados em simulações computacionais mais realísticas de reservatórios.Palavras-chave: Paleocaverna colapsada; Ground penetrating radar; Afloramento análogo; Modelo de sólido digital. AbstractIn this paper we present the methodological procedures for digital imaging of collapsed paleocaves in carbonate tufas using ground penetrating radar (GPR). These carbonate deposits occur in the Quixeré region, Ceará State (NE Brazil), on the western border of the Potiguar Basin. Collapsed paleocaves are exposed along a state road, which were selected to this study. We chose a portion of the called Quixeré outcrop for making a photomosaic and caring out a GPR test section to compare and parameterize the karst geometries on the geophysics line. The results were satisfactory and led to the adoption of criteria for the interpretation of others GPR sections acquired in the region of the Quixeré outcrop. Two grids of GPR lines were acquired; the first one was wider and more spaced and guided the location of the second grid, denser and located in the southern part of the outcrop.
