Fabrication, structures, and properties of acrylonitrile/methyl acrylate copolymers and copolymers containing microencapsulated phase change materials

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The polyacrylonitrile-methyl acrylate (AN/ MA mole ratio 100/0-70/30) copolymers and copolymers (AN/MA mole ratio 85/15) containing up to 40 wt % of microencapsulated n-octadecane (MicroPCMs) are synthesized in water. The MicroPCMs were incorporated at the step of polymerization. The effect of the MA mole ratio and MicroPCMs content on structures and properties of the copolymers were studied by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR), scanning electr… Show more

“…Then, at f = 0.15-0.20, it shifts toward lower temperatures by ~10°C and broadens and thereafter (f = 0.25), in contrast, shifts by ~15°C toward higher temperatures. In [32], an extreme char acter of the acrylamide content effect on the maxi mum temperature of the exothermal peak was reported, but DSC curves were not presented. Accord ing to [22,24], less than 4 mol % acrylamide is suffi cient to noticeably decrease the onset temperature of PAN cyclization.…”

“…P(AN‐MA) was synthesized by a green and environmental emulsion polymerization based on our previous work (AN/MA molar ratios: 80/20; M w = 5.6 × 10 5 ; T m = 150–180 °C; T d = 317–325 °C). PAN ( M η = 50,000 g/mol) came from Anqing Petroleum Chemical Corporation of China.…”

“…4 Generally, there is at least one kind of comonomer in commercial PAN based copolymers, such as methyl acrylate(MA), methyl methacrylate(MMA), vinyl acetate(VAc), acrylamide(AM) and so on. 11, 12 Godshall, et al have demonstrated that the cyclization reaction, which transforms PAN into an insoluble, rigid structure, can be delayed by the presence of the comonomer. 5 Considering that VAc is an abundant, cheap and little toxic resource, it has been used as an alternative comonomer by some companies to produce PAN based fiber, such as Cydsa, Montefibre, Solutia and Faserwerke Lingen.…”
