Fabrication of poly(ϵ‐caprolactone)/paclitaxel (core)/chitosan/zein/multi‐walled carbon nanotubes/doxorubicin (shell) nanofibers against MCF‐7 breast cancer

Abstract: In the present study, paclitaxel (PTX), multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), and doxorubicin (DOX) have been simultaneously doped into the poly(ϵ‐caprolactone) (PCL)/chitosan/zein core‐shell nanofibers to increase its cytotoxicity for MCF‐7 breast cancers killing. The physico‐chemical properties of synthesized nanofibers were determined by scanning electron microscope, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, tensile strength, and degradation rate determinations. The in vitro release studies demonstrated th… Show more

“…Anirudhan et al [ 95 ] used zein as a shell to encapsulate mesoporous silica for preventing premature drug leakage and realizing sustained release. Bahmani et al [ 119 ] used zein-based multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to prepared nanofibers, and DOX and PTX were loaded. These composite core–shell nanofibers showed the synergistic therapeutic effects of MWCNTs and anticancer drugs, which had a high biocompatibility, with 84% of MCF-7 cancer cells killed at a low dosage.…”

However, the post‐treatment is not always required when appropriate shell and core polymer solutions are chosen, for example, PCL in CHCl 3 /DMF as shell and PEO/water as core.…”

“…Polak et al used GO, MWCNTs, and SWCNTs for modification of ceramic membranes for tetracycline removal from water. Results showed MWCNTs increased adsorption properties more than other modifier components[65]. Their adsorption properties is determined by factors like as purity, porosity, site density, functional groups, CNT type, and surface area[64, 66,67].Isari et al modified single-walled carbon nano-tube with N-Cu doped TiO 2 .…”
