Fabrication of PAN Electrospun Nanofibers Modified by Tannin for Effective Removal of Trace Cr(III) in Organic Complex from Wastewater

Abstract: Removal of chromium ions is significant due to their toxicity and harmfulness, however it is very difficult to remove trace Cr(III) complexed with organics because of their strong stability. Herein, a novel electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers (NF) adsorbent was fabricated and modified by tannic acid (TA) by a facile blend electrospinning approach for removal of trace Cr(III) in an organic complex. Utilizing the large specific area of nanofibers in the membrane and the good affinity of tannic acid on… Show more

“…The characteristic peaks of 2243 cm −1 assigned to PAN, along with 3255 and 1507 cm −1 assigned to tannin, were observed in the fibers, demonstrating the participation of both PAN and tannin in the composite formation. 46 The distribution of tannin molecules in the electrospun fibers determines the efficiency of subsequent Pd loading. Therefore, the tungsten-coated electrospun fibers were subjected to focused ion beam bombardment to analyze the elemental distribution on the cross-section of the fibers (Fig.…”

“…In addition, increased levels of O and Si elements after ltration indicated an accumulation of protein milk on the surface of the membrane [44]. Decreasing the N content led to PVDF: PAN nano bers being successfully modi ed by titanium [45]. As a result of the emergence of new peaks at 1182 and 1665 cm −1 are assigned to the starching vibrations of C-N and C=N groups.…”

“…If the obtained free energy (E) from this model according to Kj/mol is less than 8, the absorption is of the physical type and is due to the weak forces of wonderwalls , and if it is in the range of 8-16, metal ions are absorbed by the adsorbent with ion exchange mechanism. Adsorption is chemical when E is between 20 and 40 (13). In Temkin isothermal absorption model, the positive or negative values of B T show that the adsorption process is exothermic or endothermic (14).…”

“…Nowadays, one of the environmental concerns is the release of the existing heavy metals in groundwater and industrial wastewater, which is mainly due to industrial development and population growth. Sewage containing heavy metals is highly restricted in many countries given its high toxicity for discharge in the environment (1). Upon the entry of the pollutants into the environment, the ones that are structurally similar to natural compounds are decomposed by organisms in the environment or by physicochemical agents (2).…”
