Fabrication of N-Doped Highly Ordered Mesoporous Polymers and Carbons

Abstract: N-doped highly ordered mesoporous carbons are synthesized via a one-step organic-organic evaporation induced self-assembly method by using phenol, formaldehyde and m-aminophenol as carbon and nitrogen sources and triblock copolymer as a structure-directing agent. The frameworks are constituted by polymer and carbon upon calcination at 350 degrees C and 900 degrees C, respectively, and N incorporates into the frameworks (0.2-1.6% in molar ratio). N-doped mesoporous carbons have high surface areas (approximately… Show more

“…56 Specifically, we studied a nitrogen-doped OMC prepared from 3-aminophenol that was carbonized at 400°C. 57,58 The material has a BET surface area of 444 m 2 /g, which is similar to the highest surface area alumina and silica samples studied here. The use of a higher carbonization temperature dramatically increases the material's electron conductivity, which precludes the use of MAS.…”

“…Up to now, the conventional methods to synthesize nitrogencontaining mesoporous polymers involve a nanocasting strategy [23], surfactant-templated cocondensation [24,25]. A frequently used approach to fabricate ordered N-containing mesoporous polymers is a nanocasting process by using mesoporous silicates (such as SBA-15, KIT-6) as a hard template.…”

“…Another functional monomer, m ‐aminophenol, was used as an additive, together with resol, for the co‐assembly with triblock copolymer F127 of nitrogen‐doped OMCs. However, the ratio of aminophenol in precursors is low; thus only limited numbers of nitrogen atoms (0.2–1.6 wt %) have been introduced into the resulting OMCs …”
