Fabrication of Monodisperse Magnetite Hollow Spheres

Abstract: Monodisperse Fe3O4 hollow spheres with average diameter of 400 nm and shell thickness of 60 nm were prepared through a one-pot solvothermal process with the presence of NH4Ac as the structure-directing agent, and a novel gas-bubble-assisted Ostwald ripening process was proposed to explain the formation of hollow structures. According to this mechanism, hollow Fe3O4 and MnFe2O4 ferrite microspheres with controlled particle size were obtained using urea and ammonia as the structure-directing agents, and porous F… Show more

“…The oxidation reaction was occurred on the surface of the crystals when the atomized oxygen contacts with the products attached on the reactor wall, and the core evacuation was underwent with the diffusion of S from inner core to outward. The hollow structures were final formed when the core was consumed completely, which is kind of similar to the formation of hollow structures by Ostwald ripening process observed in solution synthesis (Ball & Ruben 2004;Hu et al, 2008;Liu & Zeng, 2005;Zott, 2003). …”

“…The fabrication of HMMCNCs involves both templatebased 81,91,92 and template-free solvothermal reaction methods. 80,[92][93][94] Li et al synthesized an HMCNC-based Dox-loaded nanomedicine with porous shell and tunable hollow chamber by a one-pot solvothermal process.…”

“…80,[92][93][94] Li et al synthesized an HMCNC-based Dox-loaded nanomedicine with porous shell and tunable hollow chamber by a one-pot solvothermal process. 81 This HMCNC carrier had a high surface area of 41.2 m 2 /g and pore volume of 0.36 cm 3 /g, which contributed to high drugloading capacity.…”

“…Recently, one template-free method to prepare Fe 3 O 4 hollow nanoparticles has been developed based on the inside-out Ostwald ripening Hu et al, 2009;Lin et al, 2012;Zhu et al, 2008). The plausible mechanism was supported by several experimental observations, considering the chemical conversion as an important factor for the hollowing process .…”
