Fabrication of mixed phase calcium ferrite and zirconia nanocomposite for abatement of methyl orange dye from aqua matrix: Optimization of process parameters

Abstract: In this study, mixed phase of CaFe 2 O 4 and ZrO 2 magnetic nanocomposite (CaF-ZO-MNC) was fabricated through facile co-precipitation method and was explored for abatement of methyl orange (MO) dye from aqua matrix. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern of the synthesized CaF-ZO-MNC depicted significant diffraction peaks of ZrO 2 and CaFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles ensured the crystalline nature of the material. The coexistence of ZrO 2 and CaFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles in the composite increased the BET surface area (95.32m 2 … Show more

“…To investigate the simultaneous effect of parameters on the response and optimization of parameters, the response surface methodology (RSM) is a useful statistical technique by reducing the number of experiments (Aliabadi, Irani, Ismaeili, & Najafzadeh, ; Karri, Tanzifi, et al, ; Tripathy, Ramesh, Debnath, & Kumar, ). Among RSM approaches, the central composite design (CCD) (Zare‐Dorabei, Ferdowsi, Barzin, & Tadjarodi, ; Zolgharnein, Shahmoradi, & Ghasemi, ) and Box–Behnken design (BBD) (Bhowmik, Deb, Debnath, & Saha, ; Bhowmik, Debnath, & Saha, ; Deb, Kanmani, Debnath, Bhowmik, & Saha, ; Ebrahimzadeh, Behbahani, Yamini, Adlnasab, & Asgharinezhad, ) have been extensively used for optimization of adsorption process. Among these methods, CCD has better prediction compared with BBD method (Zolgharnein et al, ).…”

“…The amounts of Zn(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) adsorbed were found to increase as the temperature increasing from 298 to 318 K, and Cu(II) remained the most highly adsorbed metal ion at each different temperature. The Gibbs free energy (Δ G °), entropy change (Δ S °), and enthalpy change (Δ H °) for each adsorption were calculated using the equations 30 : normalΔG°=italicRTlnKd lnKd=normalΔS°RnormalΔH°RT …”

“…About 0.4 g GFMO was respectively added to 40 ml of 40 mg/L Zn(II), Cu(II), or Cd(II) solutions at pH 6.0. The centrifuge tubes were then agitated in an orbital shaker at 150 rpm and at 298 K. The samples removed at predetermined times (5,10,20,30,60,120,240, 480, 600, 960, and 1440 min) were passed through 0.45 μm polycarbonate membranes. And the concentration of residual metal ions was determined using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer (Z-2010, Hitachi, Japan).…”
