Fabrication of High‐Performance Cationic UV Curable Cycloaliphatic Epoxy/Silicone Hybrid Coatings

Abstract: A series of cycloaliphatic epoxy acrylate prepolymer poly (METHB‐co‐MMA‐co‐BA) (MMB) and an epoxycyclohexyl‐modified polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS‐VCH) are prepared to fabricate hybrid coatings. The curing process, surface performance, mechanical properties, and thermal behavior are investigated by real‐time Fourier transform infrared (FT‐IR), contact angle measurements, tensile test, thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). For the same photoinitiator (PI) concentration, bot… Show more

“…Although our earlier research and research of others have focused on the development of various NP-GLIDE formulations, a systematic study of factors affecting the dynamic dewetting properties of these coatings has not been reported. For example, only one PDMS sample with a number-average molecular weight of 5.0 kDa has been tested so far by us in all of the previously developed PDMS-based NP-GLIDE coatings, and the possibility of further improving the properties of the coatings by changing the molecular weight of the PDMS component remains unexplored.…”

“…The contact angles of water droplets placed on cured films of prepolymers A, B and C are listed in Table 2. It can be seen in Figure 8 that the water contact angle is greater than 100°, indicating that the cured film is hydrophobic (Zhou et al , 2017; Zhu et al , 2018; Seo and Han, 2011). With the decrease of ether group content, the polarity of dual curable epoxy-based silicone coatings decreases, and the coating surface energy after curing decreases.…”

“…More recently, photoinduced CROP of these monomers has been reported with the aim at designing hybrid materials with peculiar properties. Particularly, several coatings based on these hybrids systems have been develop for a wide range of applications [370][371][372][373].…”
