Fabrication of Electrospun Exfoliated Graphite Nanosheets/Polystyrene composite nanofiber mats

Abstract: The present study is an attempt to fabricate composite nanofiber mats from polystyrene (PS) loaded with exfoliated graphite nanosheets (EGNS) by using electrospinning technique. EGNS with different weight ratios of 3, 6, and 9 wt.% were added to PS (20 wt.%). The fiber diameter and morphology of the composite nanofiber mats were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results revealed that as EGNS concentration was increased, the average diameter of EGNS/PS electrospun nanofibers decreased. Differe… Show more

“…RSM, one of the ideal and widely used approaches in DOE, was used in this study. This approach is a collection of mathematical and statistical techniques for modeling and evaluating processes in which different responses are affected by several independent variables, and its purpose is the optimization of them 35,36 . Therefore, the advantage of RSM over the other approaches lies in its ability to model and optimize complex processes with multiple variables.…”

Also, it is useful when the relationship between variables is nonlinear, and the goal is single-and multi-objective optimization of response variables.…”

“…5,6 Biomaterials such as chitosan, gelatin, and other natural and synthetic polymers, as well as calcium phosphate ceramics, have been electrospun to produce nanofibers. 7 Polystyrene loaded with varied exfoliated graphite nanosheets composite nanofiber concentrations has been effectively produced using the electrospinning method. 8 Nylon 6,6/epoxy (NY/EP) hybrid nanofibril composites reinforced with treated basalt fiber (TBF) were created using the electrospinning technique.…”

“…The composites' tensile strengths and Young's modulus are enhanced compared to PS NFs with increasing EGNS concentrations. 29 In a weight ratio of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, NY was mixed with epoxy to produce hybrid NFs made of NY and epoxy (EP) polymers. The sequencing technique used to dissolve both polymers and the minimum diameter and standard deviation for hybrid NFs were determined to be 180 ± 35 nm.…”
