Fabrication of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) Using Mg-Doped ZnO as Photoanode and Extract of Rose Myrtle (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa) as Natural Dye

Abstract: A dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) device using Mg-doped Zn thin films as photoanode and fruit extract of rose myrtle (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa) as the natural dye was investigated. The effect of annealing temperature (400-550°C) on the films of photoanode was systematically studied using an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), UV-Visible Near Infrared (UV-Vis NIR) Spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). XRD confirm that all sample has the wurtzite hexagonal with cr… Show more

“…Based on the XRD results of the transparent conductor layer, the grain size formed in the thin films can be determined by the equation 𝐷 = 0,9 𝜆 β cos θ [25] where D is the grain size (Ǻ), wavelength, width The diffraction line is measured at half the maximum intensity (radians) and the diffraction angle. XRD data, the grain size of each sample=1.5406 (Ǻ) shown in Table 3.…”

“…Nirmala et al, extracted natural dyes from beetroot and turmeric by immersing the photoanode inside the dye for several hours, they recorded a power conversion efficiency of 0.75 % and 0.40 % respectively [15]. An enhanced photoanode using rhodomyrtus tomentosa (rose myrtle) dye, recorded a strong absorption in the visible light region, with power conversion efficiency of 3.53 % [16]. The research by O'Regan and Gratzel on the fabrication of a DSSC with ruthenium dye recorded power conversion efficiency up to 7 % [5].…”
